Abigail Sullivan: The book is truly marvelous, as anyone purchasing "The Philokalia" would know. However, it is the sellers that deserve the five stars right along with the book. They made me feel like I wasn't just another customer, but a valued individual. You can count on the Honest Discount to give you what you want while keeping human dignity alive.

Jack Ladde: Ignore the comments about this being a pdf. Amazon have allowed reviews from different editions to mix up. This kindle version has chaptes that can be clicked and lead you straight to the sections you want to read. No formatting problems - no issues of any kind.
Having got that out of the way - it's hard to believe that all those expensive volumes can be downloaded for such a small price. If you are familiar with The Philokalia you need no explanation, if you don't you're probably not Orthodox so it may not be what you're looking - what we have here is the meat of Christian spirituality from those who have reached the heights.
One word of warning - some of this material is intended for aescetics and if every Tom Dick and Harry tries to apply these teachings to themselves without proper spiritual direction it may lead to mishaps.

Amazon Customer: Now, after many centuries, Western Christians are able to study the mysticism of the Eastern church!
PROS:
Volume One is not difficult reading, but it is profound reading and is best tackled a little at a time, like any other devotional book.
In this era when people are turning to mysticism of all sorts, the Philokalia offers a depth to match the deepest thirst in a totally Christian setting.
This translation has excellent introductory notes, a valuable glossary, and a well put together index.
As with other works of mysticism, the goal is not to enlighten the reader in Scriptural exegesis, but to help change the practioner into the image of God. Other books might be more valuabe for building sound doctrine, but this stands head and shoulders above others for spiritual formation.
I cannot praise this book highly enough. In the short time I have been reading it, it has made a tremendous positive impact on my life.
CONS:
The material in this book is dated. The reader must be aware that it is the product of another time and culture. Much of what the book calls "demons" etc., might be called something else in our scientific...

Noetic Pilgrim: Of Course this book ranks at the very Top of all Mystical Religious Books ever written on Christian prayer and the Path to God.
But before you choose to purchase and study its content, it is very important to read the review of this book by Bob Burcheck first.
What he says is a very real warning for all who seek hidden knowledge through the study of ancient Kabbalistic and Mystical Texts.
If you were born of Christian faith and have left that path to embrace the study of mystical thought and teachings of other Wisdom Traditions and religions in the world, this Book may just shake the very foundation of your Soul and Spiritual Being.
It is not to be entered into lightly.
It was meant to be a gate for very spiritual, advanced and devotional Orthodox Christians to enter and to contemplate.
It was always meant to be just that.
It is not a book meant for students of Comparative Religion.
It is very much like the Zohar is for the Mystical Orthodox Jew.
These texts were meant to be read by Priests and Hermits of the Orthodox tradition and the few Lay faithful who had reached a very contemplative and devotional place in their...
