Amazon Customer: The book has covered lot of examples which needs the readers attention to understand each of the topic. Good book for first time parents.

Mom life: Such profound principles and ideas. It's helping me heal and simultaneously teaching me how to be the mother I want to be and unravel all the patterning and undesirable learned behaviors and interactions from childhood that have affected my parenting. I wish I had this book 10 years ago!

Emily Harris: It's a really good book, and the advice is generally how I try to parent most of the time. I agree with pretty much all of it, and I confirmed a lot of my parenting practices.

However, a lot of the advice seems to be written for a parent with one child. The examples often refer to one child situations/her own examples are of her and her daughter. For example if your child is having a meltdown or 'inconvenient behaviour ' in the street, she suggests just sitting with and validating your child's feelings/offering emotional support. Great, all really good stuff. Absolutely agree that's what you should do when your child is overwhelmed. But just not entirely practical for parents with two or more children. Especially if you have smaller children pulling in your arm of trying to wander off whilst you soothe your child who is having these big feelings.

Worth reading and remembering the advice and aspiring towards it as much as possible. But don't let perfect be the enemy of good. We can't implement all of the advice ALL of the time. Perhaps needs more examples with more than one child. I find the most parenting support I need is when both of my children are displaying...

Stellar10: "I Wish My Parents Had Read This Book" is a poignant and enlightening journey through the world of parenting that every parent, new or experienced, should consider. The author's insights are deeply relatable, and their practical advice is like a guiding light through the often challenging terrain of raising children.

This book delves into crucial topics like effective communication, empathy, and nurturing a child's emotional intelligence. It not only provides valuable guidance but also emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and growth as a parent.

As a reader, I found myself nodding in agreement with so many passages. It's a powerful reminder that parenting is a continuous learning experience, and this book is an invaluable resource to help parents on that journey.

Hannah Elizabeth Johnson: Genuinely one of the most life changing books I have read. It is easy to read and is incredibly insightful; one reflects on relationships not only with their parents and children, but with other significant people in their lives. I found myself introspecting often too. Highly recommend 🖤

Frau K.: The book is great and would be very useful, if you are either pregnant or parenting a kind under three. Not so much information for parents of elder kids.

Mrs Saffire: AMAZING!!! I CANT RECOMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH!!!! seriously...............
its been a big big help to me..................-
especially this six wk holiday!
My two teens - they fight like cat and dog- but when it comes to me saying NO....
a lot of the time, they back each other up- even when one of them is in the wrong...
Ironically it means they love each other which is good!
BUT.....it becomes frustrating.... and hard work...
This book has helped me to stop allowing my kids push my buttons -
For example..... if a teacher handles a situation badly when I was a child- if a similar situation crops up with my kids...it can still trigger emotions from the unfair adult from my childhood... and we can sometimes carry on that leftover feeling dealing with our own kids without realising- especially when we are tired... so - happy reading! its one of the best books I've read in the last 20 years!!! :) Good Luck! :)

ETFH: I think what I liked the most about this book was the emphasis on compassion for parents struggling.

Many books, and people in general see a parent that isn’t using gentle parenting, that isn’t as kind as they need to be, and immediately shun and shame.

This book puts emphasis on repair instead of just “you’re a bad parent”. She says “the repair is more important than the rupture”, and gives the reader hope that parenting has many stages and it’s never too late to do better.

This book makes you think, but also is kind and thoughtful.

I recommend to any and all parents everywhere.

edsetiadi: All behaviour is communication, according to psychotherapist Philippa Perry, and behind the behaviour we’ll find feelings. Therefore, unraveling where the feelings are coming from becomes a key component in any form of communication.

This is a phenomenal book about our range of emotions, about the awareness and the ability to label our feelings, and understanding our triggers and reactions so that we can develop the ability to control and channel our emotions properly.

The book is also about empathy, about understanding where people’s behaviour are coming from, and about the communication tools to properly approach them.

Indeed, all behaviour is communication and it doesn’t really matter whether you’re a baby, a young kid, a teenager, or an adult. As long as we keep our lines of good communication open (without judgement, dismissal, lies, or negative reaction), it will be easier to share our honest emotions and trust with each other in order to build a healthy relationship.

But first and foremost, this book is about parenting. It’s about acknowledging our kids’ feelings, the balance between praising and criticising, the environment that we...

Brian Gongol: Everyone is or has been at least one of these things: Parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, uncle, aunt, niece, or nephew. Most of us inhabit more than one of those roles, and they can define us, shape us, and not uncommonly, dominate our self-understanding in ways both good and bad. There is no shortage of specific advice to parents on subjects from children’s sleeping habits to discipline, and it comes in a vast range of qualities, from excellent to dreadful.

A theme common to many of these parental-advice books is to frame matters in training terms: Sleep training, potty training, discipline training, and so on. While the training mindset may be useful for specific subjects a child needs to learn, it’s inadequate to the big picture of parenting. That’s what makes Philippa Perry’s “The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read” a refreshing and highly worthwhile alternative to read.

Perry, who practices as a psychotherapist and admits to her own parenting faults refreshingly and openly in her book, makes the excellent case that, fundamentally, “we should not see our babies, children, and teenagers as chores to feed and clean or otherwise fix but as people...
