My dog was jumping onto a shelf in front on our bay window to bark at anything that appeared outside. I put two of these in the window, and the problem was solved. The batteries seem to last (with admittedly very few touches) ad there have been no extra beeps like other reviewers have reported.

It’s super easy to use and set up. I’ve never had any issues with it. The zap definitely works and I only set it on the lowest settings if I have it turned on. My cat would keep me up all night scratching at my door to get out. I can’t let him out at night because I live in an apartment with roommate’s. So then he’d scratch at their doors and rip up their carpet trying to play with their cats. Obviously I didn’t want damage fees and had to find a solution. I tried to use non electric scat mats and they did not work. I tried barricading my door and it didn’t work either. This mat has been the only thing that has helped me. One zap is all it took and my cat refuses to touch it now. So I don’t even have to turn it on. If mine ever breaks I will definitely be repurchasing this because I NEED it. I can finally sleep in peace and don’t have to worry about ripped up carpet or scratched up doors. If anybody is curious what the shock feels like- the best way I can describe it is pins and needles vibrating your hand/foot. It’s bearable, but obviously would spook a cat. I wouldn’t have used it if I felt it harmed them and tested it out on myself first....

We have bought 2 16 x 48 Scat Mats over the years - the first one failed in 3 years, and the next one failed in 10 months. We are careful with them - storing them flat, never rolling them up or folding them.
The company was unhelpful and told me to buy a new one. They don't sell replacement mats without a controller (our controller works just fine).
I would not recommend their product...their quality control is terrible and standing behind their product worse - STAY AWAY

I've had Scatmats for years. One goes outside our bedroom door (along with a kiddie gate) to keep the cats out, since it's my wife's 'clean room'. Well, a wire in that mat came out of the vinyl, broke, and stopped working.
So, I ordered this one. The module which attaches to the mat does not accept an external power adapter as the older ones did. That was a real disappointment, since we tend to step on the mat from time to time and I don't see the 9v battery lasting too long. That was the case with the previous mat and module, so I used a 9v external power adapter instead of a battery. To replace the 9v battery in the new module, I have to detach the module from the mat, since the battery compartment is on the bottom. Bad design decision, IMHO. With the older one, I did not have to detach the module from the mat since access to the battery compartment was on the top (not the bottom) of the module.
I tried the module from the previous failed mat on the new mat, but it seems that the electrical characteristics of the new mat are different from the old mat; not much shock even on the highest setting. So, I estimate I'll be replacing 9v batteries every...

I will start by saying that I never imagined a product could be so perfectly effective for my intended purpose. Seriously! I wish I could have borrowed these from a friend. Because, I have no use for them any longer. I can't even lure my dog on the couch now with a treat!
I ordered these overnight delivery and they were on my porch before I woke up the next morning. I was pissed at my dog for getting in the horrible habit of laying on the couch. I HATED it. I spot cleaned it one time because I went out of town for a few days, and there was some nasty spot on it. So I cleaned it with a spot cleaner I bought on Amazon as well. I turned my back and she had gotten on the wet spot and made it wetter. I nearly beat her ass (but I didn't). I was so mad I got online and looked for something to keep her ass off of there. I was done. I found this product and bought four of them. I only needed three. My rage likely caused a shopping frenzy.
When they arrived the next day, I learned they didn't come with a needed 9V battery so I went to the store and got them. I then deep cleaned the couch soaking it with a pet cleaner and Bissel spot cleaner. ...

My sweet orange tabby had developed a bad habit of pawing on my bedroom door, usually 30-60 before I have to get up! That stopped immediately and she learned quickly to avoid the mat. Problem solved!
