PerfectPrime GA0080 | Portable Gas Leak Detector for Home and Business Safety

Kevin: My wife Gina thought she smelled a gas leak in the house. I didn't and I have a good nose so before I called the gas company, I bought this to check things out. Turns out, no gas leak but this thing is accurate. I tested it at a friend's house and detected a leak on their hot water heater. The warmup on it is a bit long(?). I don't know if that's normal but it's a good thing to have around just in case.

Trish: Guys came in to remove old gas stove. Kitchen was temporarily full of gas smelling very strong even with open windows. The plug in one I bought at the same time, plugged in right beside the stove, stayed at Zero, so that one obviously is useless. But this little one reacted within seconds, the red readings going up and up. So I think it is pretty good for the price.

D Menard: The unit is easy to use and it works. I used to to isolate a gas leak in my clothes dryer hookup. I put new batteries in, and after it performed the 200 second calibration (every time it is powered up),twice, the batteries were exhausted. I replaced with new batteries, and same thing occurred, but this time I actually got a a reading when I moved the probe closer to the leak. The color changed from green, to yellow and then to red, and the LCD showed the PPM reading.So if you know where the leak is approximately, this tool is good to get confirmation - but you have to move it very close,

Will: Very easy to use and accurate, helped me track down a subtle leak. Not as sensitive as the one the gas company uses, but also costs 1% what that one costs.

Carl: The portable gas tester saved us a lot of money and saved a lot of stress, as we were able to determine that the source of gas causing our motor home's gas alarm to go off several times while parked in our garage, was from methane outgassing by bags of manure and soil. It would have been extremely expensive to have our motor home tested for gas leaks, and there were no leaks to detect. Through a process of elimination I was finally able to determine that there were 500 parts per million of gas inside a bag of garden soil, but zero anywhere else.

Retired and loving it: This item arrived early, in fact amazon never even advised me of shipping, it just arrived. The unit is as described and although slow (as noted by others) worked well once I found batteries for it. If batteries are needed, I am used to have them included unless specifically stated that they are not. I guess I missed it (they did state batteries not included). Not sure why they weren't, it is such a little thing. With batteries i would have given it 5 stars

Amazon Customer: Gas Detector with Status LED. I have tested this on Gas pipe joints and glad to see Green LED for Good Air quality with no Gas leak. Then I tested on gas burner at minimum setting and it sure detects the leak with Red LED. My only thing against it is the 200 second you have to wait when turning on this Detector. But the Price and Design make it 4 star.

Jay: It seems that all the reviews left were for the gas detector, not for the HCHO(Formaldehyde) / TVOC detector. I bought one to measure HCHO in my home.

Pro:
1. It's cheap.
2. You can see the reading changs rapidly once you move or once the window is open and some wind blows in.
3. It's very portable.

Con:
1. The manual was printed in low quality and tiny fonts. The instruction was not clear.
2. After like 20 minutes, the reading would suddenly go to zero. (A restart would fix it.)
3. Most important, the measurement is way too high. According to it, my house's HCHO level is 300% over the health max limit, and my friends' houses are also all way over health limit if not window is open. My wife was planning to sell our house and at least to replace all furniture, before we bought a more expensive HCHO detector and found my house's HCHO level like only 30% of the limit, according to the new detector. It may be unfair to say the cheaper one is always wrong, but for all the houses to be way over the health limit, even in the houses with no new remodeling or furniture (like my own) makes it very suspicious.

Mike: I tested it by leaking some propane in a closed space in my shop. It detected the gas before my nose did. Will use this to check connections in my travel trailer, especially when I do work on the propane lines.
