Malcolm C. Melville: Used to prevent the squirrels from stealing the bird feeders around the garden. Ideally suited for securing things. Stainless seems to survive the outdoor well. The screw thread is of sufficient length and protected in the barrel. I covered with petroleum jelly (vaseline) to ensure they are easy to unscrew.
I am not sure you would want to put a lot of weight on these but strong enough to stop the squirrels!
