Kat: First off--PLEASE educate yourself on how to use a slicker brush properly before using this on an animal. It is NOT like using a pin-type brush. The pins of a slicker are sharp and will irritate the skin if you push down on the brush. This is universal to all slickers, not just this one, but if you try it and think there must be something wrong with the brush because your pet won't let you brush them--it's probably how you're using the brush, not the brush itself.

I got this to use on my Newfie as she's growing her coat back out--she came to me having been clipped down by previous owners. It tangles up very easily and so she needs brushing A LOT. The longer pins are ideal for dogs with lots of coat. If you have 2 or 3 giant dogs with that much coat, this brush probably isn't going to hold up, and you should invest in a CC slicker (with the denser pins--makes for quicker work, in addition to a large working surface). If you're a professional groomer, you definitely need something on that level.
But if you are a pet owner who is just maintaining your dog in between groomer visits and you can't quite stomach paying $50+ for one brush for your dog...this is probably the best...

Floweringplum: I purchased this slicker brush because of the size and the finer bristles to be used on my Poodle who has soft curly hair. However, I must not have read the fine detail before purchasing as I was disappointed when I unpacked to find it has small plastic nubs that can cause dragging and pulling which defeats the purpose of a slicker brush. It would be perfect for a short haired cat or dog coat that does not need professional grooming but I would not recommend on a dog or cat that has long hair or curly hair as more of a risk to pull when trying to brush. The size is small so for a larger dog, it would not have the coverage needed for adequate brushing. Better size for a small dog or a cat. I will give this brush to a charity as it is a quality brush just not meeting the needs of a pet with curly hair.

SVDSVD: Unfortunately, a lot of people get "doodle" breed dogs thinking that since they are low shedding that they are also low maintenance. That's only true if you plan on having them come home from the groomer looking like a shaved rat. If you want a fluffy doodle that is tangle free with a long coat and healthy skin, you need to brush them out regularly, preferably daily. That requires specific tools including a steel comb and slicker brush. From my experience, most metal combs are pretty similar, but there is a BIG difference in slicker brushes out there on the market today. Trust me, I have over 6 different brands of slicker brush and 3 different metal combs. I also recommend some sort of grooming table, as it will save your back and be easier and safer for your dog. At this point I use the metal comb, this slicker brush, and my Chris Christensen slicker brush to maintain my dog's coat daily between regular grooming (every 3-4 weeks).

SallySally: This brush is amazing. I have two Samoyeds and I bought over 10 brushes so far. None of them could truly brush their coat. My older pup had matted spots on his body, this brush took care of that. The teeth are a bit sharp but if you’re careful you won’t hurt their skin. I was starting to lose hope that I can do this at home. And was about to book a groomer appointment (which would cost +130 per dog) but this brush saved the day!
