Amazon Customer: So well written with interesting characters who fought nature and outlaws to create a homestead and business in the wilderness from nothing. Covers three generations from 1863 to 1968.

robin oconnor: I like to lean the history of any state I live in , but also love good fiction . This is written in the fashion of James Mitchener so it is also a fun story of the brave southern families that settled in florida to become cattle ranchers ! Their difficulties of living in an Australia like environment and their love of owning their own land and being free.

J.D. Jones: This is a great read, and living in Florida made it even for fun to read.

james grady white: I had read the story of how Flagler caused the development of Floridas east coast. This book tells the story of how the middle part of Florida was developed. It’s a fascinating story and I highly recommend it.

Philip H. Davis: As a person who has lived in Florida since the 1940's it was a pleasure to read a Florida story that felt so authentic. So much of old Florida is gone and with it the characters and 'crackeers' that once lived there. A really good read.

Amazon Customer: Excellent narrative on the history of a family that settled Florida starting in the mid nineteenth century until today. The descriptions of the wilderness and the animal life before the land was despoiled by development and the natural disasters that occurred along the way is awesome

PETER W: This epic story of a family's journey to Florida and through life is a moving rag to riches tale that embraces the history of the state, and the successful struggle to live in the pre and post civil war days. It's a griping narrative ranging from the mid 19th century to present day times, a must read for anyone who loves Florida.
