Their difficulties of living in an Australia like environment and their love of owning their own land and being free.

james grady white: I had read the story of how Flagler caused the development of Floridas east coast. This book tells the story of how the middle part of Florida was developed. It’s a fascinating story and I highly recommend it.

Philip H. Davis: As a person who has lived in Florida since the 1940's it was a pleasure to read a Florida story that felt so authentic. So much of old Florida is gone and with it the characters and 'crackeers' that once lived there. A really good read.

Amazon Customer: Excellent narrative on the history of a family that settled Florida starting in the mid nineteenth century until today. The descriptions of the wilderness and the animal life before the land was despoiled by development and the natural disasters that occurred along the way is awesome
