Palram Mona Cat Kennel: The Perfect Home for Small and Medium-Sized Felines

K. Duncan: I needed a small house that would actually fit on my porch, that I could actually afford, for the two porch cats that decided I was their new Mom. My porches are shallow and wind can blow rain in sideways so I needed something that would shed the rain well, fit as close to my house as possible in the small allotted space, that the cats would feel comfortable going in and out of. The 'civilized' cat loves it and has used it to shelter from rain and once when all of his normal sitting chairs were occupied by people and he wanted a nap. I put a flexible heated pad in it for winter. The more feral cat I don't think has used it but we will see as the weather cools. I like the fact it has a front and back door so the skittish one can escape and not feel trapped. After reading all of the reviews, I switched the doors so I have some visibility into the house from front or back. I have tied open the front door until they get used to using it. I used a clear silicone caulk around the roof ridge and the front and back panels but left the floor uncaulked so I can get the heated pad plug in and out seasonally and just in case it gets water in it, it will drain out. I found it easy to assemble....

KL: The shelter does not seem as weatherproof as it looks online. It is a slightly flexible, manufactured wood/heavy cardboard type of material for the bottom, two sides, and one end with the flap door. I only set it up yesterday, so I do not know how well it will stand up to the elements.
The plastic rings and screws as a method of attachment for the swinging doors is actually pretty nice.
The small push in posts to connect pieces is simplistic, but they seem to hold well. There will be a couple of extra screws, a nut, and push plugs-which is always a plus.
Pro:I really like the clear plastic end with swinging door and the small clouded plastic overhang you can place over the other swinging door.
Con:The swinging doors leave large spaces for wind, rain, or snow to get in if it falls the right way.
Pro:I really like the magnet to keep the clear plastic door open as the cats get used to the shelter.
Pro:This is a very nice, large sized shelter, I fit two small self heating pads in it easily, and a few to four regular sized cats will definitely fit comfortably.
Con:The feet barely raise the shelter off whatever surface you'll put it on, I don't think I would place...

Ashleigh F.Ashleigh F.: I was initially skeptical of the reviews that said this required two people to assemble. I put it together by myself in 25 mins. It was a breeze. I like the magnet feature that holds the clear door up but it seems to not be very sturdy. Easy fix. I will add some weatherproof stripping and some insulation before setting it out for the ferals. My 13 lb indoor cat gave it a first whirl and I imagine 2 decent sized cats could occupy this, if they’re comfortable getting cozy together. The material wasn’t quite what I expected but time will tell how durable it is. Will update if it doesn’t hold up to expectations.

Ziva's MomZiva's Mom: I read the reviews on this and most of them were good. A few said it took 2 people to assemble. The number of little pieces is kinda scary but this thing is super well designed and fabricated. I expect it to last a long time. It really isn't hard to put together and you don't need 2 people. I was unsure of the size so I went with the larger one and it was perfect. Highly recommend. This reminded me of a design school project where you had to design a super efficient, long lasting product that would fit in the smallest box possible. Mission Accomplished! Its amazing and Finn loves it too!

Anon73: This is super cute! Just adorable. Fairly easy to assemble. I originally bought it for my outdoor feral cats. However it’s not really sturdy or weatherproof enough. It’s so lightweight if the cat needs to quickly bolt out the whole thing moves which is also dangerous when needing to evade a predator. The movement startles them and distracts their focus to flee. The house moving slightly when they bolt also slows them down a bit since not a resistant enough to push off when wanting to quickly exit. They instead need a shelter that stays steady when they engage their instinct to run quickly since they push off whatever surface they are currently on. (In this case the shelter floor or sides.) Also even with the slight overhang, the rain can get inside unless you use the protective hanging door which the feral cats do not like. I now use it instead for my indoor cats. They use it as a bunker inside my house or on their enclosed catio. IE, no worries about rain or the house moving slightly since no real dangers to quickly escape from or for them to engage they reflexive “bolt” push against. So overall happy with it although would not recommend as a feral cat shelter.

Millie MeowMillie Meow: The media could not be loaded.  Update: Tried installing the rod from the other side and it worked so no more problem.

Didn’t take long to put together on my own but another pair of hands would be handy.

Having problem sliding the rod all the way through. This mean that one of the door won’t stay open as there is nothing for the magnet to stick to. Will fiddle around with it some more when I have time.

Cats were surprisingly interested which was a relief considering the price. I put in their favourite blanket and treats. Took one cat a while to figure out the swing door lol but he’s not the brightest.

I don’t think it will be completely waterproof as there are gaps around the doors, so will depend on which way the rain hits.
