First times using it I found the mount takes experience but again orion have great instructional videos. My only big issue is the view finder, when I get it aligned correctly I find the slightest knock and it goes out of alignment which is frustrating and I am probably going to have to replace this. Apart from that nice images of manly the moon so far but I am more interested in lunar and planetary than deep sky so this looks to suit me for a while at least

Michelle Marriott: I love this telescope. Wanted one for ages and took my time looking at reviews and bit research. I actually been out today looking at birds. First time was at night looking at the moon it was really clear and fascinating. Definitely recommend.

JasonJason: This telescope is a great option for beginning astronomers. There are less expensive telescopes on the market, but the Orion is a better monetary investment because of both the features available right out of the box and the upgrade potential.
The telescope itself is basic, but good quality for the price. The finder scope is magnified, and better than the red dot finders included with many other entry level purchases. The whole thing can also be put together very quickly. The included star diagonal and eyepieces are also basic, but the use of standard 1.25" connections means that you can easily upgrade them, and any pieces that you do upgrade will also be compatible with higher end telescopes that use a 1.25" connection.
Really though, the reason to get this over another entry level purchase is the mount. Although an equatorial mount is less intuitive than an alt-azimuth mount, taking the time to learn how to use it is time well spent. Tracking objects during a night of stargazing is considerably simpler with a properly aligned EQ mount, and this is especially critical when viewing at high magnification or taking photographs. A good quality EQ mount like this one...

FSFS: The media could not be loaded.

Linzy: What a suprise. The quality of this equipment far exceeded my expectations at this price. There are a few things that are a little odd about it. 1 the tripod, while very stable once together, is very precarious to assemble. Definitely remove the scope from the equitorial mount to assemble and disassemble. The only bad thing is you will have to balance the scope each time you use it. (You could put a marker mark or some tape to mark the position of the scope) It would also be nice to have a surveyor level in the kit so it can be properly leveled. Not a big deal but at almost $300 a $5 level would be a nice gesture to include. Especially when this is a beginner scope. 2, the instructions are lacking. Again, for a beginner scope, some more diagrams and better (maybe less technical terms) for setting up the equatorial mount would be great. I took off a star because of this, it's one of the main reasons for purchasing this model. I think one of the indicator dials doesn't work on mine but again, I don't really know because I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly. Even though, we were able to take it out Christmas night and I was able to have my son see Venus, the Pleiades star cluster,...

Tobyus: My wife got this telescope for me for Christmas, and I am pretty pleased with it for the price. I waited almost a whole month to post a review so I would have time to try it out on different kinds of objects and have enough experience with it to give a fair review.
This was my first equatorial mount, and I haven't had too much trouble with that except for the Dec Axis, which always seems to be hitting its limit when I am changing targets, but that is something explained in the instruction manual so I expected it, it is just slightly annoying.
The scope itself seems to be well made, and the 25mm eyepiece that comes with it is awesome in my opinion. The 10mm seems to be OK, but I am much happier with the 6mm Orion Expanse eyepiece I bought to go along with this scope to get closer to the "maximum" magnification and to have a wider view at higher magnification. The finder scope seems to stay on target better than my last telescope (a Meade 114mm reflector goto scope). And I have seen much more color and detail through this scope than my slightly larger aperture reflector.
So far I have seen Jupiter (2 distinct orangish bands) and 4 of its moons. I even managed to...

Harvey Ellman-Brown: I bought this for my daughter who is doing Astronomy GCSE and have been really pleased with the optic quality. Delivery exceeded all expectations. While long lead time arrived in 3 days. A useful tip I was given was if there are electronics on the telescope that potentially takes money about from optics quality. Think about what is more important to you.
