I followed the instructions concerning the strengthening of the base Called ''Before you get discouraged by the reviews...'' In the comments below, posted by ''kindle Customer''
I feel it is now so much more resistant than if I hadn't done it. Worth the extra steps and the extra time. Minimal to no creaking sounds, the drawers are almost perfect (just one with a 1 cm crack), the wooden planks didn't move when I put the mattress on top (if I hadn't screwed them to the base the planks would've been all over the place). And I added porcelain handles to the drawers: now it's super pretty!
Notes
Do be careful to not use max torque the screws, since it's still not real hard wood tho.
And as of Kindle Customer's ''STEP 5 '' (STEP 5: Drill the corner braces using the 6x5/8 screw ) :
Firstly: DO IT BEFORE STEP 2 ! But the slats in the frame in step 2 yes, but do not screw them just yet; this will allow you to move the ones
close to the border a bit so you have more space to work with the corner braces.
Secondly, when he says: ''I found it helpful to put the top four horizontally (directly above the slats) and BOTTOM...

Don't even THINK about buying this piece of junk! I purchased this item 9 months ago, and with normal use, it is now reduced to little more than a pile of sawdust. The screws have come lose, the tracks for the drawers have come unscrewed and have pulled out of the particle board, rendering them completely non-functional. The clothing stored in the drawers is covered in sawdust and chunks of particleboard. There is nothing sturdy about this product, despite the fact that I had it professionally assembled at considerable additional cost.
After thirty days, the manufacturer offers replacement or replacement parts ONLY. That might be reasonable in an item or part of an item which has a manufacturing defect, but is TOTALLY USELESS in the case of a bed with this many moving parts, constructed of sawdust and glue. "Ashes to ashes..." comes to mind.
Amazon customer service was of absolutely no use, spouting the company policy at three separate levels, (really?) and denying even an Amazon credit

I bought this for my guest bedroom. I would not purchase it for rambunctious children that like to jump on furniture, for everyday use for myself, or for very amorous adults. However, for the occasional visitor and my cats, it is perfect. This is not high end furniture and probably would not hold up for 20 years of use (unless you are like me with need only for a few days out of each year).
It is laminated MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard = glued sawdust). Off gassing will occur. It did have some minor flaws, so I placed the flawed pieces in the least noticeable position in the room. Count your pieces before you start and READ the directions. If you are familiar with the materials and the instructions, you will save time. It is unlikely that you will have extra pieces.
It was easy to put together and I did most of it myself. I'm an accountant, not a contractor (but my Dad taught me a lot about construction and power tools). I did recruit some assistance in making sure the frame was squared off, but that was it. The only remotely challenging part was getting the bolts to go in correctly when attaching the headboard and foot board to the side...

The good: Quite attractive; better looking than the photos suggest. Good price for this type of bed. Takes longer to assemble than the instructions state but still reasonably quick, maybe three hours start to finish. Biggest problem we had with assembly was that the threaded inserts holding the frame bolts are somewhat tricky to line up. As with all particleboard, care is needed to avoid stripping screws. Sturdy _with some added hardware_; see below.
The bad: If you're expecting Sauder quality, look elsewhere. (Why Sauder doesn't make beds of this type, I don't know.) Finish peels or scratches with little effort; be careful of dragging pieces on the floor. Frame is OK (but again, see below,) but the drawers look and feel flimsy. Cam locks holding the front pieces are weak; would much rather have had decorative screws. Several screw and cam holes were a bit misaligned, requiring some manipulation and a few hammer-taps to get right. To Prepac's credit, the drawer bottoms look as though they won't pop out easily; a problem with most flat-pack drawers. And, once properly assembled, all drawers went into the frame flush and smoothly.
The...

Matt Richards:
I have been reading some of the reviews about this platform bed and some people definitely are way too picky. First off this bed looks awesome when it is fully completed! If you can take your time and follow the directions this bed will go together perfectly. Everything fits together with no flaws when you do it right. All of the building is pretty basic, its just a lot of screwing screws. There was not one challenging part and the instructions were very well written and easy to understand with visuals. I put 2 corner braces (Top & Bottom) on each side just to give it some extra support and sturdiness.
The worst part about the bed were the pieces of wood that the actual mattress sits on. There was 9 long planks of wood that go vertically across. Personally I found them pretty cheaply made and decided to buy some plywood to cut out and place on top of it. Fixes any potential problems and gives a sturdier support for the mattress. The outside can scratch fairly easily, so just be careful when around it. We bought the headboard to go with it and it makes the entire bed look that much better!
We purchased this when it was on sale for $297 and for...
