Kindle Customer: This is a lovely story with a mystery woven into it. The main character is a widow coping with the ups and downs of grief as she goes to visit an ailing aunt. Worth reading.

Portybelle - Joanne: I thoroughly enjoyed this book set in Tindledale village. It's the third set there I believe and although I hadn't read the others it didn't affect my enjoyement of this book at all - and I now want to read the others! It's mainly about young widow April who has gone to look after her frail elderly great aunt Edie, as she is is getting a little forgetful. Edie keeps confusing  April with her sister Winnie who left Tindledale in WW2 and never returned. April decides to try to find out what happens to Winnie to try to help her aunt. It's such a lovely book which, as well as following April as she tries to solve the mystery, also looks at grief, second chances, finding happiness again, dementia and bullying. The village setting was wonderfully portrayed with so many caring and supportive residents that I wouldn't mind moving there myself! The focus is mainly on the women in the story and I was very taken with the dedication - "For all the ordinary women everywhere, doing extraordinary things."  The women of Tindledale may just have been 'ordinary women' and that's what made the book so readable, but there were certainly more than a few doing 'extraordinary things.'

June: With great relief, I made it to the end of this book, but this involved just glancing at each page as often as not. There was a half-way decent story, but the telling was cumbersome. April is a widow, and we're reminded of this on almost every page. Her husband, Graham, known as Gray, is mentioned over and over again - on some pages, in every paragraph. We hear all about him and his illness, even a reference to wiping "his arse". There is so much repetitive and unnecessary detail, which was the reason I resorted to skim reading. We even had to know what type of biscuits or cakes were being eaten and what size knitting needles were being used to knit what precise type of garment. There were several references to TV shows. In fact, there was what felt like an avalanche of unnecessary words.

We are intended to believe that April is a very caring person, yet she hasn't visited her great aunt Edie for years, although Edie has no other relatives and is very elderly. They spent a lot of time together when April was young, including living together for several months after she was orphaned, so it seems downright neglectful. When she finally pays her a visit, her aunt is lying on the...

Donna T: What an utterly beautiful book, from the characters, to the description, and ultimately to the storyline and wonderfully poignant ending. The Secret of Orchard Cottage left me feeling like I'd had it all within its pages.

The quaint and beautiful village of Tindledale is the feature once again, and some familiar faces pop up throughout, but the main focus is on April and Edie, her nonagenarian spinster aunt who seems to be struggling alone. She has the onset of dementia and often seems to be in the past referring to April as Winnie, the elder sister she has not seen since WWII and does not know the whereabouts of. Armed with her old secret diaries April decides to make it her mission to find out what happened to her other great aunt.

April's story is an incredibly sad one, and I rooted for her from the very start, I wanted so badly to see her rebuild her life and confidence after being made a widow in terribly tragic circumstances. Can Orchard Cottage work it's magic on April and heal the hurt caused?

I loved all the Tindledale books, but this is my overall favourite. A wonderful, charming rollercoaster of a story with characters that you will fall in love...

Nikkib: What fantastic book, it's definitely in my all time top 5 of best books read.
From start to finish I was hooked, April's grief over losing her husband, Gray at such a early age and worrying about her elderly Aunt in Tindledale who was confusing April with her own sister Winnie, meant April travelled back to the place she spent her Summers as a child.
Once there she began to find out about the Aunt she never knew but no one could have guessed the reason why. Her step-daughter Nancy joins her there and whilst finding out about Winnie, April, together with her step-daughter Nancy began to heal after the untimely death of Gray.
I laughed and cried reading this book, a real page turner which is so well written I felt as if I were walking through the orchards and meadows picking the ripe fruit and flowers; lazing in the sun drinking cider made from the orchards fruit and meeting characters from the previous 2 books in the series who have been brought into this current book.
I really hope there will be another book in the series, Tindledale it seems is a village where people go to heal after traumatic events in their lives.
