Onkyo TX-NR676 7.2 Channel Network Audio/Video Receiver

Nathan KarklinsNathan Karklins: This is going to sound crazy. I tried everything, to fix the picture issue for my new high end TV, including replacing the HDMI cables many times.

The story - I got this receiver as part of an upgrade for a new 4K setup but experienced issues when switching between SDR and HDR content as there was a slight pause in the video feed which resulted in a black screen which displayed for a second or two.

Through use, I quickly learned that 4K content is often cut up into many qualities and resolution which caused this black flicker to happen very often. Additionally, when streaming content video resolution increases as it buffers but the black flicker issue would occur as it upgraded.

I was about ready to pull all my hair out but then discovered a Reddit thread about a secret menu.

The fix - Apparently, with many Onkyo receivers you can press and hold the BD/DVD button and then use the ON/Standby button on the physical unit to switch between different pass through modes in a Secret Menu which is not outlined in the manual. I was able to change my HDMI mode from “standard” to “enhanced” which stopped the black flicker.

Jorboch: Antes que nada el receiver lo adquirí para conectar mi PC y disfrutar de alta calidad en el sonido de los videojuegos. La Pc la conecte al puerto HDMI IN que dice PC y no existe perdida de calidad en 4k HDR a 60 Hz y lo mas importante es que no detecto ningún input lag entre el ratón y lo que veo en pantalla.

Con respecto a la calidad de sonido que me proporciona este receiver solo puedo decir que es excelente y lo utilizo en una configuracion 5.1.2 con Windows 10.

El proceso de configuración es muy amigable y fácil tan solo recomiendo actualizar el software del receiver una ves que lo conectes a tu red de internet.

Ademas tengo conectado mi Xbox one S el cual puedes configurar para que te reproduzca sonido Dolby Atmos y debo admitir que las aplicaciones de streaming son de otro nivel al utilizar este receiver tal y como son Netflix, HBO Go y Prime Video.

El único inconveniente que noto al usarlo en PC es que te puedes quedar sin sonido durante los primeros segundos de un vídeo y esto se debe a que la PC reproduce muchos tipos de formatos de audio ya sea estéreo, 5.1, 5.1.2, etc y el receiver tarda unos segundos en saber que...

Thomas A. Darby: My previous stereo, a top-brand 5.1-channel unit, failed after two years (shortly after warranty expired). It would cost too much to repair. So, after research, I bought this Onkyo unit. It is physically larger than my previous unit, so it took some work to get it to fit in my limited space. Setup was straightforward, even though the rear panel was a bit intimidating. Now however I have two of my PlayStations (PS3, PS4) running through it, and the surround sound effect is excellent. Movies sound as good as in the theater. I can't comment on the radio or Chromecast, since I don't use those features; this unit is also capable of a second-room stereo setup, and 7.2 channel sound. Those are also features I don't use currently. The quality of construction is evident, and the documentation is good. Setting up the speakers is a simple matter of placing the included microphone in the listening position, then running the setup procedure. All in all I think this is the best receiver you can get anywhere near this price point.

Rajeev Paliwal: Its Onkyo.... how can it be wrong? Bang on the receiver is a gem of a performer, its my first purchase in AV segment. I have coupled it with Polk audio signature 5.1 setup, using my old Kenwood Sub (yeah.. still working) for that .1 figure and its rocking the space. I zeroed out on this receiver after lot of research, as this was my first purchase and I don't want to shell out a fortune for my first home theater ownership. I agree that there are better models available in the same brand as well as in other brands, but this receiver handsomely deliver the value for the money spent. Since this is a US power rated, hence I have to use a step-down converter to run it and its working perfectly with no problem what so ever. During my buying days I was concentrating on two models this v/s Pioneer VS-1131which was a little costlier then Onkyo. I finalize this over Pioneer with the sole motive of using that extra cash to purchase step down converter.

This review is coming after a year of usage, so I can vouch for the satisfaction level I have derived from this receiver. The most important part is the 7 HDMI connectivity options, I made use of 3 and is still left...

Jesus Hernández AlcudiaJesus Hernández Alcudia: Este receptor onkyo TXNR676 es excelente tanto el sonido que tiene con el video, conecte mi reproductor 4K sin problemas tiene pasada hdr 60p, si recomiendo que se tengo en un lugar ventilado ya que tiende a calentarse pero esto no afecta su funcionamiento, con respecto al envio igual sin problemas llego bien empacado sin maltrató

Rock'tRobbie: This is a great Receiver with a ton of features. The Dual HDMI output is great for connecting the TV and projector. The phone app is not bad but could use a bit of minor improvements.

gordon j wilson: Bought product in Jul;y 2018 and hooked it up. All went well until 3 weeks ago when tuner stopped working. Up until this point everything worked very well. Tuner mode suddenly stopped. It had been working prior to this. Contacted customer support who told me after 3 or 4 e mails to check antenna every time we communicated. There were other minor recommendation as well. Each recommendation was always check to see antenna is fastened and or another minor issue.. Considering I have tried three different antennas and did what they recommended the tuner does not work. Told them I was getting tired of the redundancy of the antenna issue. This was on the 25th and nothing has been coming forward from Onkyo. Thus I got a receiver which works for everything else but will not work for the tuner and customer service seems to be nonchalant about my "redundancy" comment. It would seem a "we are working on it" would be sufficient but silence is worth a thousand words in this case. In short, I may have wasted my money on this product. I. B. Koran: I suppose that one benefit of entering my seventh decade is the ability to compare the value/priceof of new products with what has come before. From that standpoint alone, the value of this Onkyo receiver is exceptional. It certainly isn’t perfect, but it is easy to set up and really does sound great.

Here are a few specifics. I like the ability to easily control content and volume of the second zone. You can use the zone 2 speaker terminals or your own amp. You can play separate content or let it automatically play the same content as the main zone. That is a very convenient feature. I use the iOS app and it works well for me. You can buy a receiver with a more powerful amp, but for most of us the unit has lots of juice. The menu control isn’t perfect, you can get “lost in the weeds” on occasion. I really like to use a sleep timer but Onkyo makes this very difficult. Some manufacturers have a sleep timer on the remote or the iOS app, but as far as I can tell, the only way to access the timer is through the main setup menu, and the timer is buried in the “Hardware” sub-menu.
