John Ch: Handy rod for salmon fishing, the only complain is the reel seat, while fought with something big, the reel became loose.

Seb: It states that it is made of graphite, but nowhere on the rod said graphite or anything else. It feels heavier than it should be for a graphite rod and has a tag hanging from one of the eyelets that says Carbon. I haven't used it yet, so I cannot speak about durability or ease of use. I will go salmon fishing and will pair it with a Pflueger President 4000. I will update my review after that, but I have a feeling that it will go back. I will probably go for a Lamiglass rod that I held in my hand at Cabelas. I am willing to pay more money for something I know it is made of graphite.

Plien Plek: I got the 8'6" Medium 2-piece version. Looks great for a rod that's around $50 (price jumped to $67 now). Very light and sensitive. I let my 8 year old nephew use it on the jetty a few days ago and he pulled up a 26" leopard shark. Being the kid he was he tried to horse that up the rocks. Fortunately the rod didn't break but at least I know the rod is strong enough to handle something that big.

My biggest grip is exactly what other reviewers have complained about....the reel seat lock. The lock screws down from the top, which I'm finding is a design flaw for left hand retriever. As I'm holding my rod where the reel is, the top screw always manage to get loose...making the reel loose and wobbly as your reeling in fish. It can be quite annoying having to adjust it often. However, it's too nice of a pole to let a minor inconvenience deter you from getting it.

A. Koziol: I've been fishing for 45 years or so and have gone through countless rods. I have many old Shimano rods and reels purchased decades ago still going strong. I'd gotten a newer gen Shimano rod for Father's day last year and it barely lasted a few days worth of being taken out fishing. It was so brittle and poorly constructed it just fell apart basically. So I read all the glowing reviews of Okuma rods and decided to switch brands on my heavy action setup. Very happy with the design and construction of this rod. Take braids well and my old reel works well on a river rig setup. 2 months work of fishing already under my belt with this rod and it's caught me lots of fish in northern Illinois. Spend a bit more money and you get better quality rods I guess. But buy cheap and you'll buy twice. Thanks for converting me Okuma!

RobertRobert: I like the feeling of first usage. Not too rigid, not too soft.

Aaron: I have to agree with another reviewer…

I took this rod out for salmon fishing this year. It’s a nice looking rod. It performed well as far as the action, rod tip, power/sensitivity.

HOWEVER, the reel seat tightens from the top… and more importantly LOOSENS FROM THE TOP!

This may not seem like a big deal until you are fighting a 30lb king salmon on your line and all of a sudden are worried about the reel coming off the rod altogether.

Not a very good design. In fact, it was problematic enough that I bought another rod and decided to make this one a back up.

Maybe more experienced anglers have a way to remedy this, but my guess is that more experienced anglers are spending more money for a better designed rod.

All in all, it’s not an awful rod for the money and if you know what you’re getting yourself into- or if you have a way to easily fix the issue (a rubber band or something?), it’ll be just fine.

If you make the purchase, just anticipate that reel working it’s way loose and be conscientious of periodically tightening it down…and if possible, maybe find a remedy for the design ahead of time!?!

sherman: Good quality guides and reel seat. All guides lined up from top to bottom. And the joint didn't affect the bend of the rod. Slim blank, but a little bit over weight and tip heavy, mostly because it uses heavier stainless steel guides. I have to use a 4000 size Daiwa bg to balance it out. Caught a few large chum salmon and it has enough backbone. Soild 70 CAD rod, not many options on the market for this price.

Ballistic_trep: When I placed the order for this Okuma Celilo rod, I was expecting a heavy rod that would be as comfortable fishing stripers in surf as it would steelhead in a fast river. I must of misread the stats because I received a ten foot rod that's incredibly light and flexible....rated for 4-12lb test line rather than the 30-40 I was expecting. Don't get me wrong....it's a beautiful rod and I'll probably keep it. But I better be more cautious next time I order a rod off Amazon so I'm sure I'm reading the details carefully.
