K: This worked on a 125 turtle tank with one filter, but it needs improvements and I'll probably get something else.
Also I'm not sure how I feel about the pad area being clear. All the gross muck the filter collects is on display, but it does make it easier to see when filter changes are needed.
The good:
It does a good job of cleaning the oil slick that was the surface of the tank, even with a large tank.
The motor is sturdy- even though I left the water evaporate down to too low for it once so it was plugged in without water running through for a bit, the unit still works.
The good to know:
1) The motor removes from the main part of the column for easy cleaning. I did not realize this the first time I cleaned it.
Needs Improvement:
The Adjustable Attachment:
Although this skimmer is plenty strong enough to be a surface skimmer on large aquariums, the adjustable length on the acrylic piece that goes over the lip of the tank and attaches to the skimmer is not long enough, I have to keep my 125 filled to the very top and have the skimmer adjusted to the very deepest it will go for the water level to hit the skimmer at the intake level....

Ashley: So I have a small 2.5 gallon tank and I hate not having a surface skimmer. I was looking for better options outside the HOB styles. I am not an expert about any of the filter systems by any means. I would say that the issue with the output for water doesn't line up like mentioned in other comments, However a few taps on the counter and it levels out nicely so the holes match in order to place the piping in.
Now this really is a much larger filter than I really need by far but I liked the design. I do wish they made smaller ones for tiny tanks. It does have a ton of power when it comes to the output to the water and creates quite a flow that I know is not suitable for a betta. I am going to be using some foam to slow the flow down a little bit like another reviewer suggested. I completely rescaped my tank today just to fit this filter in there. I may end up placing my own filter media in there eventually like others have done. It does take up room in smaller tanks but it is what it is at this point.
I have had this filter in there for about 10 min and so far the system is doing a fantastic job of clearing my water from disturbing the soil substrate while replanting. I...

Walter Wittich: This filter really works well, but keep in mind that it is small, so it does not have the power to filter a larger tank (anything over 5 gallon). Its skim feature is its best feature, but the water level needs to be just at the right level for the mechanism to work. Every time I refill water or make a water change, I need to re-set the filter. Also, given its small size, I need to clean it every 3 to 4 days.
Works best as a supplementary filter to a larger filter that does not have a skim feature.

Drew: It’s super efficient, and even works great with my 84 gallon, even though I settled on not being able to just left it hang over the top.
Regardless of that however, it is not effective at all if the floating skimming intake doesn’t have just the right amount of buoyancy. The spray bar output is a great idea, but for anything less than a 10 gallon, it looks clunky. You also have to clean it out every few days, unless you use your own filter floss. The brand name is written smack in the front of the skimmer that is otherwise mostly transparent, taking away its subtlety.

Nick Rafuse: I had trouble finding a smaller surface skimmer useable for fresh water tanks. This was my final choice. I refused to pay the price to top brands, and found the knock-offs to be terrible.
This one came recommended from a local club member. I found it easy to setup and use, however I also find it clogs very easily as there's very little filter surface area. If low maintenance is your goal, look elsewhere (by that I mean... no surface skimmers)
Other than that, I'm very happy with it. cheap and reliable for the six months or so I've been running it.

gardenhogardenho: I am using this in a 55 gallon aquarium modified as a turtle tank. I did have to come up with my own way of mounting it to the tank as the standard method of hanging on the side wouldn't work for me due to water level. The 3rd photo demonstrates how I hung it, just used suction cups (very sturdy ones) mounted in the screw holes meant for the hanging clip.
It works very well at skimming off the wee bits of skin the turtle sheds and food debris in the water and has a good sized filter which is easily removed for rinsing. First photo shows the filter and how it has collected a lot of floating crud. It provides great aeration and flow is as advertised. Adding it to the tank has improved the water movement and I don't think there are any 'dead' spots any longer. In all but 1 photo the unit is not plugged in - when not, the skimmer box pops up above water level and when plugged in like the last photo the skimmer box is sucked down and water trickles in along with any floating debris.
My only issue is that the side pipe with all the holes where water exits back into the tank is not attached in a stable manner and easily knocked off or moved about. Probably great with fish...

DistraughtDragonDistraughtDragon: The media could not be loaded. I use this skimmer on a 175 gallon aquarium, I chose it due to directional output flow ability (most seem to have outflow back into the direction the water is flowing in at which really decreases the gunk they can skim out of your water or it flows out somewhere else you don’t want) and also due to its amazing filtration ability for such a little guy, so very easy to clean too!. I had worried I would not be strong enough for my large tank but it does the job very well!!
I tried the Oase Crystal Skim 600 which was close to $60, it was horrible. Difficult to clean, difficult to adjust to water level and keep skimmer function working well and very strong noisy vibration I’m sure the fish didn’t appreciate. It only worked when put at the exact level to skim water but anytime the water level dropped or was refilled it stopped skimming well and was at risk of burnout if my water level dropped just a bit, the floating piece seemed to completely reduce skimming abilities and this is required to adjust to changing water levels.
The sun sun version similar to this one only had one directional output that I didn’t prefer blowing down on top...
