Amazon Customer: WARNING: For the price, definitively was ripped off. It worked for about 3 weeks and then quit. It thinks it's full of ice when it's completely empty. NutriChef won't return request for support email. Amazon why are you selling this product?

Fahed Ismail: This unit is garbage and Amazon doesn't accept returns on this item...trust me I tried to return it the next day. It doesn't dispense large cubes as the system can not dispense them. The ice dispensed when using small cubes evaporate sooo fast.

Honestly I'm likely just going to toss this and the $300+ I spent on it.

Worst Amazon experience I've ever had, my own fault for not looking into the return policy first...Its just never been an issue with Amazon so I assumed I could return it.

MBF: So it took me a day of questing to three separate hardware stores to find the correct plumbing hookup for our sink so that I could attach a filter, but that was completely worth it. Once the under-the-sink situation was handled, it was just a matter of plugging in the tubes and cord. Installed. Goodbye Brita! The machine is a fantastic stand-in for a fridge that doesn't have an ice/water dispenser. The water tastes amazing and the ice is sort of soft and chewable (which I love).

BUT ...

What's the deal with the beeps!? For some odd reason, the manufacturers decided, in addition to the sound of ice clattering into the holding bin, we also need to be informed with a super annoying, microwave-type beep. I'm honestly not even sure what it's supposed to mean. All I can think is, for the love of all things holy, can't we turn that off!? No sir. Not an option. There's no switch. There's no setttings option. Apparently, one has to delve into the inner workings of an electronics board to clip some wire or something (my wife looked it up). We considered it. That's how annoying the beep is.

So far, we feel like opening up an ice machine is the path to the dark side, but...

dany malaxos: Very good for the price. Makes ice in less than 9 minutes. I don't use it to drink water, it tastes weird. Maybe because it's brand new.

Amazon Customer: Ice is melting and get stuck in dispencer and the water taste like plastic good part it make ice fast

James J Carnes: I wanted to wait and use the ice maker for a while before writing a review, as quite often things that start out great end up disappointing. I can now give a pretty solid endorsement. Aside from a couple of small quibbles (which I will get to) I am suitably impressed.
Our last countertop ice maker died peacefully in its' sleep after a long and chilling life. It was a manual fill, manual empty model, and we had just gotten used to all of its faults (slow, poorly insulated; we manually emptied the ice into a bin in the freezer and kept an ice pick handy to break it all up...) After a couple of months buying bags of ice we decided it was time to look into a replacement.
To answer a few of the questions/complaints I have seen in other reviews:
*A user manual was included with mine, but the instructions could have been better. I didn't have any trouble at all though.
*DO follow the advice to leave it on the counter with all the doors open for a couple of hours before using it
*DO plan on tossing out most of the ice made the first day you have it. (allow lots of fresh clean water to cycle through)
*I do wish it had a slightly larger capacity ice storage bin.
*I have...

Michael MaxfieldMichael Maxfield: A great idea but severely flawed.
The ice dispenser is a cool idea, but it still requires fidgeting with the ice scoop to break up the ice. Just as easy to scoop it from the old machine it replaced.
The water dispenser is nice too, but draws the water from out of the melted ice reservoir instead of fresh water directly from the water line.
The direct connection to the household water is a positive feature without any negative comments.
The unit was shipped from Amazon on its side while the user manual states that the unit should never be tipped beyond 45 degrees as that may cause damage to the seals and compressor.
My wife is demanding that I return the unit due to the plastic taste in the ice and dispensed water. Before disconnecting the unit this morning, I filled one glass of water from the water dispenser, and a second from the water line just before it enters into the ice machine. The water from the machine had a plastic taste, very hard to stomach, while the water from the feed line lacked the offensive taste.
When I first hooked the unit up last week upon receiving it, There was some sort of gray muck which oozed out of the lower drain hole in the water...

Laird: Just received it. First issue - no manual is included, and not even a link. Going to nutrichefkitchen.com links to [...]. Searching and clicking around, I found the manual [...]
The manual says 'During transportation, the incline angle of the cabinet should not be over 45° .Do not turn the Ice
maker upside down. As this may damage the compressor and sealed system.' Of course, the box has no 'this side up' marking or instructions, so I'm sure it wasn't shipped right-side-up the whole time. Fingers crossed!

"Before using the Ice maker for the first time, please wait 2 hours after positioning it, and keep the front lid open for at least 2 hours" . Of course, there's no "front lid" - there's a door on top and a door on the right side. So I left them open.

There's a line for connecting to a water feed so you don't need to fill it manually, but the manual has no instructions as to the line size, etc., so there's more experimentation to do there.

Once started, in 9 minutes or so it made 9 ice cubes, then repeats. So, realistically, start it running an hour before you needs much ice.

All that being said, it works fine.
