I didn’t give 5 stars because the base got water in it. I ended up returning this because I was afraid the water would eventually short out the wires or ruin the motor. However, it may be waterproof and that I don’t know. I didn’t want to take my chances.
The flavor ice cream I made was cookies and cream. I made a plain vanilla and put Oreos in the add-on when the ice cream was nearly done. It took approximately 40 minutes to make.
This machine isn’t too loud and you can tell by my video. In the video I am using my voice at my normal level that I would if I were simply having a conversation with someone (usually myself. Haha.)
It was a fun experience and also the first time I’ve ever made my own ice cream. I typically make all of my desserts, but use the stove and oven for those (cakes, pies, fudge, etc.). I now have a new branch of desserts - frozen. The ideas I began to create were endless. I got to thinking about blueberry cheesecake ice cream (frozen blueberries, mascarpone, crushed Graham crackers), chocolate peanut butter, and many other things. Yum!
This way of making ice cream is a bit messy, but...

Tina Pike: I really love this machine. It is small, but, that is what I wanted. It’s just my husband and I. I followed the instructions and it was done in about 20-25 minutes. Consistency was soft serve. I used my own (no cook recipe) and just modified the proper amounts. I researched a lot of machines and this one seems to be true to description. The dasher and parts are plastic so care should be taken when handling. I froze the bowl in my deep freeze and froze it upside down to keep the ingredients from sticking to the bottom. Worked great! I made the ingredients and put it in the back of the refrigerator where it would be kept the coldest, for a day. This was my first time using it. If anything different happens I will add to my review.

Laughing Gravy: Our first time using it, my first time churning ice cream since I did it by hand as a kid, it worked like a charm. Going back to memories of hand churning I expected the machine to bog down and stop when it was done. This was about the time when the kids' arms were about to fall off, because God knows the adults didn't do the cranking!
The instructions said about 30 minutes but we went 45 and then pulled the plug and we had...ice cream!
Some things I will change next time. We bought two LARGE bags of ice and used half a bag. Next time I will buy two small or one large and accept some melted ice for the plants.
This is not Dairy Queen smooth ice cream but I think that can be achieved. I recorded and episode of Good Eats where AB walks you through preparing the mixture. I will follow that next time even if it means a bit more work up front.
The people that said they couldn't get it working or that it didn't work the way they expected are, well, wrong. At first, I expected (as I'm sure many others expected) that the tub would sit still and the beater would turn. Hey, that's what the hand cranked did, right? But with this the tub turns and everything else stays...

BCLj: I was skeptical of this product after reading dome of the reviews but I went for it anyway. I wanted a tall skinny can. This freezer does not have that but it is not an older model short dumpy is a I feared. I made made my mother’s recipe. 2.5 c sugar, 2 t vanilla, 2 eggs, a good dash of salt, whole milk. I washed all parts and put can and paddles and lid in the big freezer then mixed up the recipe and chilled it. When our guests arrived I assembled everything and followed the instructions about ice and salt and let her whirl. I used a handle end of a wooden spoon to stick in the ice about every 10 minutes or so. I added ice snd salt as melting occurred. The motor was not laboring at 30 minutes so I let it run 10 more minutes. Then I removed the paddles and capped the top. Oh be sure to wipe the top off as instructions say. I cover the freezer with newspaper and let it sit about 15 minutes. Oh boy! It was firmer than soft serve and delicious! After feeding our guests I put the remainder in a freezer container. The deeper I scooped the harder the ice cream was. The very bottom required a spatula to break it loose from the bottom! Very please with this purchase so far. Exceeded my...
