F A: Once I started reading, it was difficult to put down as I became so engrossed in the lives of the three good friends. Would love to read a follow up.

Rhianna: I was invested in the story and the characters, it was a very juicy read however it did end quite abruptly and felt a bit unfinished

miranda: I ordered this on my kindle after spending a good part of 40 minutes reading it in the library . I wish I'd read the reviews. Because the start is very gripping and then falls off (for me) . I got confused between the characters, the only person who stood out to me was the person the author tried to portray as the racketeer. When they all perfectly happy to do things. It's difficult to believe women in the 30s would WILLINGLY let someone come in and do that. I won't excuse their actions. But the women seemed to be a bit daft and living in a La La land. It felt like it was easier for them to blame someone else and carry on with their lives than take accountability. I felt like the ending was super unnecessary. And made me think I was reading a Jo Jo moyes book but with black women.
I look forward to reading more books by this author. But hopefully exploring a different genre of black womanhood.

Kekashowanso: Though the ending was rather quick, it was interesting to hold on to find out what the fuss was all about. It would have been nice if Kayode did not die, but it was more important for the rich to not get away with such a gruesome crime. May we never meet anyone who exacts perceived punishment like the Babangaris.

Jeniah Jones: The lengths she would go to...wow! This book had me saying, "No she didn't," the whole way through. I think the recipes at the end were a nice touch. I wish I had seen them in the beginning (my own fault for skipping the table of contents) so that I could enjoy them with the.characters.in the book. This story is a good reminder to be grateful for all I have and not think the grass.is greener on the other side. That and be very careful who I share my personal business with.

Bubbly: Excellently written, really funny. Such a pity the author has such colorist and stereotypical views... that she's only gets away with by being half Nigerian (and no, Tony at the end does not make up for it). It's incredibly sad to see any form of self hate. Sadder when it ruins what would have been my new favourite book .

ladyDMK: The premise of this book was promising, leading me to purchase the book after reading a sample. The little clues that were dropped of what was really going on was intriguing. But after a while, it was really frustrating to watch the three friends turn on each other and allow this intruder to tear apart their lives, and difficult to continue reading. Still, I held out promise for the ending, but was really disappointed.
I agree with another reviewer in that the way Nigerian men were spoken about was so negative that it may have me questioning those I see. That's not good. Ronke was my favorite character and I'd read another book with her in it, since her ending storyline was so rushed. Also, it would have been nice to have a little glossary at the end, as some of the Nigerian words were not translated.

Yanique G: For some reason I missed it in the description that it the main characters were mixed race girls of Nigerian heritage. I am not mixed race but I think it’s a book for all races and I enjoyed it thoroughly. A great read! Easy flow and the right mix of drama, real life issues and suspense. Good job!

Camille E. Simms: Wahala means trouble or chaos. This book was everything and all!! I loved how the book built up to the chaos!! By the time the story unfolded, I felt a connection to each of the characters! Thrilling, exciting and towards the last 10 chapters, page turning. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not slow starting but in slowly lures you in

V. O'Regan: ‘Three’s company. Four’s a crowd’ - ‘Wahala’ by Nikki May.

Wahala is a Yoruba word meaning trouble and in this lively comedy-drama wahala walks into the lives of Ronke, Simi, and Boo, three Nigerian-British friends living in London. They have all experienced racism in their day-to-day lives though haven’t allowed it to hold them back.

Now in their thirties, they each face new questions about their futures. Ronke is keen to settle down though insists any potential husband be Nigerian; Boo is finding marriage and motherhood a strain; while Simi, working in high fashion, is frustrated by her boss constantly referring to her 'urban vibe'.

Then Isobel, a glamorous friend from Simi’s past, arrives in town and quickly inserts herself into the women’s lives. It’s not long until she’s creating waves and even if the friends are unaware, it’s clear to the reader that she’s trouble with a capital W. Still, no further details to avoid spoilers.

‘Wahala’ celebrates the fusion of British and Nigerian cultures in relation to its protagonists’ lives. I found this a highly engaging novel that is a brilliant exploration of friendship. Of...
