These teachings are entirely consistent with those of a neuropsychologist who wrote The Grieving Brain.

maydee stone: This book helped at my lowest. Even after reading it from the library. I had to have it as a tool. When ever I am even a little lost. 10 minutes into it and I feel better. Even as old as it is. It still holds true. We deal with things in are body and mind the same way.

Irawati: The book so beautiful and easily talks of our fears, our potential for kindness and for being witnesses to our own process of life as it unfolds! 2 of my major take aways:
1. Simply worded practical method for meditative practice
2. The view that even our most negative sounding feelings and thoughts are nothing but wisdom.
LOVE IT!

Grace O'Malley: As a therapist, I've used essays/chapters from this book for innumerable group discussions. Pema has a light touch with some humor, and a gentle acceptance of human nature.

Her writing about the practice of maitri, “developing loving-kindness and an unconditional friendship with ourselves”, is filled with compassion. Her line “It is never too late for any of us to look at our minds” is an invitation to grow. Over the years, I have given this book and others by Pema to countless loved ones and clients.
At the same moment, Pema reveals a flaw in her thinking. Although she warns us not to participate in harshness, she herself levels a wholesale condemnation of theism: that in her mind, a belief in God, a higher power, entity or energy, is tantamount to “abdicating our responsibilities.” Belief, prayer,...
