Jim: Thus replaced an old grinder that lasted for years before the blade broke. This one works well, but it is messier than our old one. I have to take the cup off over the trash can to keep from getting grounds everywhere. But it grinds, is not quite as noisy as my old one, and it looks nice on the counter.

Jeff: Replaced an expensive one that was overkill and cost 10 times more for coffee that taste the same no matter which grinder. I don't expect it to last 10 years like the last one but if it last a couple years I'll buy another. Is nearly as noisy as the last one, but never had a quiet grinder.

Amazon Customer: I purchased this product several years ago to grind my flaxseeds. I also use it for spices. I would have preferred a burr grinder, but I couldn't find one that could handle the flat little flaxseeds. This product works great, and is still going strong after at least 2 years of daily use.

To clean, I just wipe it out with my finger. It also works to grind a little rice in it. I only occasionally wash it out when desperate, as water is not good for the blade mechanism, and you must be careful not to get water underneath.

It's easier to grind at least a tablespoon at a time. To grind smaller amounts you have to pulse a lot, but it can be done.

A few times after I've ground more aromatic spices it has started making a whining noise. This goes away after a few grinds with more normal materials.

I heard the company is getting sued for misrepresenting itself as Austrian. I did buy it partly based on the Austrian label, but in hindsight I don't regret the purchase and have found it to be high quality.

Lana JonesLana Jones: I initially purchased the grinder to the left in my photo. Both work well—good power, not terribly loud, efficient (the one to the left seems like it may have had a bit more power but not enough to make a difference to me). However the one to the left has a tight fitting lid and the unit generates a lot of static electricity. This results in a messy little explosion of coffee grounds all over the counter when the lid is removed after grinding. If I am patient and wait 30 seconds for the static to dissipate and am careful about removing this snugly fitting lid there is no mess. But patience is not one of my virtues before having coffee in the morning. So I tried the other unit and it does not seem to generate the same static electricity. One other point is the cord. The unit to the left (the static generator) has a longer cord but no cord storage. The one to the right has a shorter cord with cord storage built in (under the unit, wrap around style) and this also works better for me on my counter top. Hope this helps

Also, strangely, coffee grinds spill from the bottom of the unit!?
