C. RinnertC. Rinnert: After hiking for several months all over varying terrain i went down the YouTube trail to see what these poles are all about. I’ll be honest, I thought it was something “ older “ hikers used and didn’t think much about them ( even though I’m older now hahah ) then saw how many hikers used them of all ages and the data on how they help save your knees and you can cover more ground easily and quicker with more stability . I have trashed ankles and use high boots for this reason so yeah I’ve fallen a few times in the past before I used high boots. Anyhooo , I researched and decided on these because they seemed like a good price point and potentially durable. I used them for the first time today and did a 4 mile climbing up and down in rock and broken up , hard crusted mud , super dry area. First hill I already realized I liked them. I also can see how you cover more on flat land because they propel you with ease. I do like how I now can use my upper body for a full work out . Going down hill I still need some work on , doesn’t feel as natural to use them but I know there are benefits to learning .
I will update this review only if anything changes but I really love...

R. Aramaki: My physical therapist suggested using trekking poles to help with lower back pain and build core strength when walking.
I compared brands to see what I would get from $30 to $200. From aluminum to carbon fiber.
A friend recommended the Montem poles. She walks several times a week.
I ordered the carbon fiber poles. At $85 these are more expensive than the aluminum poles. They are lightweight and adjust easily to fit my height. The numbers on the poles are recommendations. Keep fiddling with the length until you get the Goldilocks setting just for you. There is a learning curve to coordinate walking and planting the poles. It took me half the walk to get a rhythm and find the spot to plant the poles. For me, I reach out to start the next move and just let the pole drop. It’s about the midpoint of my heel and my toe.
The carbon fiber poles are lightweight. The foam handles cushion the grip. I did notice, as some reviewers pointed out, a vibration at the tip when it landed behind me. Hard to say if it’s my technique or the material.
I am going to Yosemite later and will post results after the trip. So far I am happy with the Montem trekking poles.

D. DubsD. Dubs: Okay. So I purchased these poles almost two years ago. I was preparing for a trip to Mount Whitney and was replacing some older gear. I was looking to upgrade and go lighter and decided on carbon fiber poles. I use poles a lot in steep country going downhill to take some pressure off of my knees and low back. They definitely help with balance, as well. Many of the other poles I looked at were expensive. Worth it I'm sure, but i was looking to make my money go further as I was upgrading other gear too.
The Montem poles were almost half the price of others I looked at. I'd never heard of the name, but figured I would try them out. I took them on a number of preparatory trips and they worked well. They seemed sturdy and were easy to adjust on the go. The cork handles were nice too as they would absorb sweat and did not get slippery or sticky as the handles on my older, aluminum poles did.
Last weekend I brought them to Mount Baldy. While crossing a section of trail comprised of jagged rock, one pole got stuck between the rocks. As I wrestled it free, the tip snapped off. I was barely 3 miles into an 11 mile hike. I would need the support of both poles. I was able to...

Cody: My only real gripe with these is that under enough pressure they do start to retract. I have the mechanism about aa tight as I can get it and it still doesn't full hold up sometimes. I'm not heavy or very strong but I worry about them failing under enough stress.
Great for holding up my trekking pole tent or going on hikes without my backpack on. Very light weight. Highly recommend.
