The media could not be loaded.

PRIME SYLVAN...

Larry: Really good pedals for touring or just an easy fun day riding along beach bike paths. I've used a pair of these right out of the box for all sorts of riding on my road bike from heavy hills to paved roads thru Utah! deserts in triple digit temps to lots of fun rides along flat beach bike paths and along river bike paths.

After about 1500 miles the right pedal started to make a clunking noise yesterday so I'm ordering a new pair just in case cleaning and greasing doesn't fix the clunking problem with the right pedal. In any case it's always a good idea to have a backup pair of pedals just in case.

Well worth the $ imo.

Update 2/27/2015
I removed and cleaned the bearings and races, packed them with high temp wheel bearing grease from my local auto parts store, made sure there were 11 bearings in each side of the pedal and put them back together. Then I preloaded them by tightening to where there was no more play in the pedals and then just a very little bit more. Went for a 12 mile ride and no more noise from the right pedal. Problem solved.

mce USER: very nice pedal at a good price. They use 2 sets of separate ball bearings so they can be serviced - bearings replaced or just re lubed. These pedals are a long term buy. Buy the spanner to remove the end cap to gain access to the bearings, This only cost about £4 but maybe be hard to find - I got mine from Amazon. The platform is quite big for big feet and will take reflectors, sold separately. Many similar priced pedals use a bush rather than bearings and have a limited life and cant really be serviced other than re lubed. Buy these ones one of the best at the price

Edward SmithEdward Smith: I gave up on clip-in shoes and I can't be happier. Wherever I go, I have my favorite shoes, because I'm already wearing them! Commuting, shopping, visiting friends, camping, and just plain old riding are all easier now that I don't have to carry extra shoes or struggle to walk in cycling shoes. But for a year I hedged my bet and kept my Shimano pedals with a flat side for street shoes and a clip-in side for mountain bike cleats. And all year long I resented the clip-in side for stubbornly insisting on being the side to present itself to my shoe. Every time I started a ride, I would need to look down and fiddle with flipping the pedal over. After reading Grant Peterson's  Just Ride: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike , I decided to commit and started shopping for a nice flat double-sided pedal. I narrowed my selection down to this pedal and the  MKS Lambda Pedals - 9/16", Silver . The Lambda was very tempting because it looked so big and wide. Surely this would compensate for any real or imagined loss of efficiency that comes with riding in softer-soled, more comfortable shoes. However I couldn't get...

Vieux Bob: The MKS Sylvan Touring pedals are an excellent product. Far better quality than any similar looking pedals carried by any of my local bike shops. Their style is based on very similar touring pedals popular many decades ago. Steel axle with an all-alloy body and cage plates. These are very nicely finished and offer a good wide platform for wide feet, casual or athletic shoes and skate shoes as well as modern MTB style cycling shoes which you can also use - but without their usual SPD cleats.

I have recently taken to riding without modern MTB or Road style clipless pedals - and even without older style toe-clips and straps on some bikes. These fit my needs extremely well. They are attractive enough to use on a cherished Vintage bike and would look equally at home on your modern $3,000 Rivendell bike as well.

These are an excellent choice for a commuter bike where you may not want to bother with toe-clips and straps, and they will even work well wearing construction boots. Whereas your old school Campagnolo quill-style racing pedals were designed for toe-clips and had one proper side of the pedal to accept your shoe, these are double-sided so...
