Chasbeaux: Having this tool has made my life much easier. It takes seconds to use and has been extremely accurate. I check the salinity on my reef tank quite often and now that chore is a breeze. The unit is very sturdy and easy to clean. I have standards and so far I have only done an initial calibration which has stayed true. I’m super happy with the purchase.

Bill: This one is hard to do a good review . first of all for the price the ma800 case should of come with it .
Now it get tricky . the celebration is simple and easy . I had no problems zeroing it out . The problem is the verification . I see so may reviews in utub saying the same thing . The verification solution is marked 1.025
every reading I take I get 1.027 one out 10 1.026. Now if I take that same solution 1.025 and us it with my refractometer . I get a 1.025 reading . if I use my refractometer verification solution at 1.025 with the Milwaukee ma887 I get 1.025 . so to me Milwaukee is using a 3rd party verification solution that is not correct . I have yet to write to Milwaukee to see what they say . It Does state plus or minus .2 . It is very precise get the same number over and over . So the way my unit reads I always mines .01 if it reads 1.026 I will record the reading at 1.025 . then I will verify that reading in the next day using my refractometer. Also the MA877 doesn't read in halves if the reading is 1.025.6 it will read 1.026

Amazon Customer: This digital refractometer seems very well built, extremely easy to use and calibrate, and it came with sample solutions for calibrating (distilled water) and salinity verification fluid to make sure it's calibrated. Yes you have to calibrate it every time you turn it on, why wouldn't you want to? I was using a hydrometer for my 55 gallon setup, always read 1.023 sg and thats where I wanted it. I am going to start doing corals so I wanted to be sure my water was at 1.025 sg for them to thrive. I tested my water salinity and it was at 1.028 using this digital refractometer, way higher than what the hydrometer was reading. I verified with the salinity verification fluid just to be sure, my salinity was actually that high!! Now I know to never rely on anything less than this digital refractometer.

Matt: If you mix any amount of saltwater this is a must-have tool to keep around. Readings are instant and you no longer need to play around with your refractometer second-guessing yourself about where the two colors meet on the scale.
I still keep a refractometer around but gone are the days of squinting and looking for the perfect angle in the light to get a clear reading. This has made mixing new water a treat. For practically the same price as a good refractometer it's a no-brainer.
The only thing I found a little iffy is the soft feet on the bottom of the unit. Half of the feet on my unit fell off but this was quickly resolved with some superglue. Other than possibly the wrong adhesive being used on the feet the rest of the unit is solid and well built. It's water resistant (maybe even waterproof?) and I wash mine off under running water all the time without issue.
Does not include the case. You can buy it separately but the case is far more than it should be in my opinion. It would be just as cheap to get a nice little pelican case if you need somewhere to store it.
This is my fourth unit. The first three I've sold on the spot because friends liked it...

Chris Hardwick: I struggled with small cheap plastic hydrometers for many years and I've always doubted their accuracy, mainly because of air bubbles and degradation of the plastic as it ages. I've seen people use the optical ones but they are always pointing them at the room light to try to get a reading. It's nice to have something really accurate for a change that you can read in any light, I especially like that it takes into account the temperature! I'm amazed at the low price, this could easliy sell for $300 or more. It's really fast and easy to use. If there was one thing I could change it would be that I wish it had one more decimal place so you can tell if it's between for instance 1.023 and 1.024. If it read 1.0235 that would be awesome, but realistically the small changes in salinity between numbers won't have an effect on your aquarium.
For those new at changing water I can share my method. I have a 14 gallon nano cube and I change 2 gallons twice a week. I measure out my water in gallon water jugs, similar to milk jugs only they had distilled water in them. I fill them with RODI water for my salt mix. Then I weight out 293 grams of Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix using a gram scale....
