Ruth: Size 2xl was perfect fit for my cocker spaniel. A snug fit but not too tight around his nose and mouth. He can still lick and take a treat but it stops him from being able to snap. He needs it for visits to the vet (not a fan!) for peace of mind and also to stop him being bitey when being groomed (again, not a fan!). He of course, absolutely hates it but it is quick and easy to put on so can be done fairly easily despite his resistance. It wouldn’t be suitable for use over long periods, but it is effective for short spells. Obviously I would rather not need one but when he is in uncomfortable situations, I would rather know he can’t snap.

Karenmrobertson: The vet used one of these on our German shepherd dog at a recent appointment and I was impressed by how easy it was to use and how comfortable it looked. I decided to purchase our own one for further visits but forgot to ask what size they used on him. I measured his nose at the widest point as suggested, an inch or so below his eyes and it was nearly 30cm. When I looked at the size suggested for his breed however it was way off at 18.5-19.5cm. I wasn’t sure if I had measured in the wrong place or that their suggested size was wrong, but in the end I went with my measurement and ordered a 5XL instead of a 3XL. I’m glad I did because it fits perfectly.
I think this is a great muzzle to use for short periods such as vet visits, grooming etc, but would never, ever consider using it during exercise or when the weather is warm because the dog is unable to pant freely - if it was large enough for this it would be ineffective as a muzzle. A basket muzzle where the dog can open its mouth to pant and drink would be preferable in those circumstances, but not necessary in our case.
