Doug McMillinDoug McMillin: I bought a brand new Jeep Wrangler 2-door (2023) and removed the rear seat. Then I attached the barrier to the roll bar as shown in the photo, using two camera straps. One end of each is rolled and bundled using a zip tie. The other ends use a snap fastener. The strap lengths are adjustable. The whole barrier is stabilized by fitting the threaded rods into a 2x2 piece of fir on the floor. All very dog proof.

I'm very impressed and very pleased. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. Although it clearly says "made in China" on the box, the company is based in the US - I only mention this because one item was immediately apparent: The instructions were very clear and written in American English. That said, assembly was easy. Although it's a universal device, that includes a number of grates you can add to fit all shapes of vehicles, I did not need them. Only the two main grates were needed for a perfect fit in my 2020 Mazda CX-5. With good positioning, and a solid rubber cargo mat on the floor, the unit stays sturdily in place with nothing more than cranking down firmly on two wing nuts to secure it in place.
The wing nut's provide the tension to extend the two metal legs - keeping it "jammed" between the floor and the roof. If you own a CX-5 you'll understand when I say that all I had to do was adjust the recline of my rear seats forward one notch to get that perfect position. The product seems high enough quality, and even comes with two rubber silencers to prevent the grates from ratting against each other. When installed properly it doesn't make a...

Mandy T: I have a Hyundai Santa Fe and 2 large breed dogs. I tried two other barriers before this one and they managed to move it and get through. This one is perfect! I did have a bit of a hard time with assembly at first, but once I laid it all out on the garage floor and read the instructions it was no problem.

James W. Ross MD:
When our Boxer puppy gnawed on the dashboard ($$$) and steering wheel of our Mercedes 350 GLK I knew I had to do something and quickly.
Amazon has a good selection of pet barriers. They fall into basically 5 categories: tubular floor to ceiling, tubular side to side mount, cloth mesh, mount on headrest, and wire mesh. I ruled out the tubular floor to ceiling type because the puppy could easily get through it, and the tubular side to side type because there was no convenient place to mount it. The mesh would be chewed through in a minute. The mount on headrest type would leave the back of the seats available to be chewed and that left only the wire mesh type which I ordered.
It came promptly but was evidently dropped in shipment. The box was crushed on the corner, the plastic shipping ties were all broken, the mesh was bent in a couple of places and a weld or 2 were broken. Fortunately none of this was structural and was quickly straightened. I thought this would be less hassle than returning it for replacement.
My application required placement behind the front seat because we have 3 dogs and need the entire back area plus access to the rear...

My wife and I were down to 2 choices, the tubular barrier or this Midwest model. The tubular product would not have suited our needs because our dog's head could go through the tubular bars where he could reach seatbelt straps that he would then destroy. So we decided to go with the Midwest barrier.
The installation was clear-cut and easy. For about the first week there were no rattles. But by the second week, small rattles would occur on rough roads. This was easily fixed by using small black cable ties where ever grating overlapped the base grate. There have been no rattles since. There was also a small place where the sides of the barrier smacked against the plastic window molding when going over speed bumps. This was easily fixed by using a self-adhesive, small (1/2" diameter) circular felt pad at the point of contact on both window moldings. The barrier now makes no noises what so ever. The only other "issue" that we noticed was that one of the grate clamps was in the way of the rear view visibility. Again, this was easily fixed by moving the clamp to the very top of the grate and using black cable ties where the clamp previously held the...

RobynRobyn: Received product & saw the box was already opened and taped back shut. All the pieces were randomly in the box & not in bags. Caps don’t fit the poles so not sure if they’re even the correct ones. Took quite some time to find & figure out all the pieces. One of the wingnuts & screw was missing. Fortunately, my husband had some that matched.
The instructions contradict itself by indicating one way & then putting it another and the pictures don’t always match the instructions.
Once we got all the pieces sorted & out together, it fits well and works as it should.
