Wildfire: As a hobbyist / semi-professional making and repairing audio effects and hi-fi I've had several brands of braid through my hands and have struggled to remove a component without tearing the printed circuit track or ruining what might otherwise be a reusable component. THIS braid is so utterly easy. I haven't a clue why but it's effortless - it could be because it's slightly thinner than 'standard' braid.
The fact is, having tried a reel I decided to buy this box of 10 reels because I can't see myself changing to a different brand now. It's making hobby life so much easier.

John: I have tried two other brands of desoldering wick with limited success (even when brand new).

I tried this brand and the results were like night and day compared to the others. With this brand, the solder was wicked/absorbed far more effectively.

This brand has flux impregnated in the copper braid. I don’t remember if the others I’ve tried had the flux.

This stuff works great!

Bruce: This stuff is astonishingly good. The difference between this braid and other braids I've used (even compared to another M.G. Chemicals "super wick" (cat #444)) is night and day. For years I basically concluded that solder wick/copper braid simply does not work and a solder sucker was the only way to desolder. Or, perhaps I needed to learn some mystical technique to use it. Well it turns out that the difference between "average" quality wick and good quality wick (i.e. this stuff) is more than just minor--it's the difference between completely uneffective/useless/wasting-your-time-and-energy and very effective. The previous stuff I've used only succeeds in smooshing the melted solder around, with only a tiny bit of solder being essentially pressed into the braid by force. But this braid actually pulls the solder into itself. You can see the silver material climbing up the braid like mercury in a thermometer plunged into boiling water. This does not require any fancy technique; it just works. I will therefore only ever buy this wick, and I am done wasting my time with stuff that simply can't do the job it's meant to do.

Dave: I was having difficulty with some Radio Shack brand wick I had left over from years gone by, and went looking for some good wick to use.
All I can say is that the only thing that could make this particular wick better is if it heated itself up! The strands of the Radio Shack stuff were too big, and the braid was too loose. Of course, you need extra flux to use this, or any wick. I knew that going in, and ordered more at the same time as this (also by MG Chemicals).
Thank you MG Chemicals for a wonderful wick! I'll order more when I run out.
A note to anyone who has difficulty using this. With lead-free solder, or oxidized solder joints, it is extremely difficult to get it to wick with ANY wick. The trick is to apply some flux (highly activated flux works best on oxidized joints) and a dab of leaded solder. Then this wick will mop it right up!
