P. Jain: I have around 300 trees on my property. Very soft wood (red cherry) and managing the unchecked growth of this "privacy fence" has been painful. I own a lot of saws (ryobi, electric, and others) but they are too bulky or difficult to maneuver in the tight spaces. I have cut approximately 100 1 to 3 inch thick trees with this saw. If there was an option of buying an additional battery I would have done that. As battery runs out of juice in 2-3 hours and it heats up fast.
Having said that this saw is still used 4-5 hours each week for last 1 year and still going strong....

AmazonCustomer#19373628AmazonCustomer#19373628: This is a chainsaw. If you know how to safely and properly use a chainsaw, you will know how to use this. It does chainsaw things.

If you know chainsaws overheat without oil, then you understand this doesn't have oil and will overheat. If you understand that, you will use it carefully and take your time, touching the chain every now and then to make sure it's not burning you to the touch. But It will burn to the touch, it doesn't have oil. That's how chainsaws work. So if it's a hot summer's day and you're cutting hardwoods, cut a few and go have a beer or water, it's too hot to touch already.

While I wish this wasn't the case, I've already cut hundreds of pounds of wood. It works. If you take into consideration the fact that it's a chainsaw and does chainsaw things, this will serve you beautifully. Just remember, IT DOESN'T HAVE AN OIL RESERVOIR! IT WILL OVERHEAT IF YOU USE IT TOO MUCH TOO SOON! IT WILL BREAK IF YOU USE IT INCORRECTLY.

Also the chain tension screw strips easily. Probably the only actual negative. $45 doe.

Jacquelyn: I have a bunch of small branches that I have wanted to take down. I live on a farm. I’m not in just a small bit of acreage. Anyway, I’ve been having trouble mowing through certain areas and just needed something that would hack through them. I didn’t need a regular size chain saw, This thing is PERFECT for a 64 year old woman ! That little thing will just work you to death ! *grin*. I now have 4 pickup truck loads of brush across the street waiting for the county to come. I really had a lot of fun with it ! Hope to have much more fun with it when I catch my breath ! Laugh Out Loud ! I’d give this thing 10 stars if I could !
By the way, I liked this so much I bought two of my sisters and three friends each one of them ! I guess that says something ! Perfect gift for someone who needs something like that !

jmpaes: Normally I am not one to buy something like this because I automatically assume it is only going to be able to do about half of what it promises. A friend from work bought one of these and loved it. So, I bought one and am so impressed with everything about it!!! Finally able to get out there and get rid of unwanted limbs all on my own!!!! Very impressed!!!

UPDATE: HAD TO DOWNGRADE MY RATING. SIGH. . . . WELL, AFTER HAVING USED IT ONE TIME AS MENTIONED ABOVE, I PLUGGED THE BATTERY INTO THE CHARGER AND IT HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE. HAVING TO SEND IT BACK. VERY DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST. I ALSO BOUGHT ONE FOR MY MOM BEFORE MINE QUIT, SO WE WILL SEE WHAT HER'S ENDS UP DOING. . . . TO BE CONTINUED.

UPDATE 2: Upgraded my rating because Mom's saw is still going strong after 3 recharges. Might get another one and see if the first one was one of the 10% that had a dud battery. . . . To be continued :)

UPDATE 3: Since the one I bought mom was still going strong, I decided to give it another try. The second one I was sent has no problems and is running like a champ. I guess I would recommend this if you don't mind the chance of having to send it back once or twice.

JR Greensboro: This is the right size and the type of tool and is makita battery compatible.

the big "however" is that it says it has a safety switch, but it really isn't a safety switch. It's just a toggle switch that locks the tool trigger. if pressed to "on", the trigger depresses but if not, the trigger won't fire.

All good except unlike most other saws, you can leave the lock in the "on" position, it doesn't automatically turn off when you release the safety switch and without knowing it, you have the chainsaw in a ready to trigger state -- just an accident waiting to happen.

Think of a drill toggle to go forward/reverse -- this is the same type of toggle -- you press it flush and it sticks out on the other side and vice versa. you have to manually switch it to on/off

so returned this and went with another version.

the other saw i purchased has all the same features but you have to press the safety switch and the trigger at the same time to use the tool. once you let go of the safety switch, the trigger can't be turned on. this is much safer than the toggle on this tool.

On the different version I bought to replace this one, the side of the thumb...
