The 1 real RonaldThe 1 real Ronald: This bread knife works way better than my 100$ bread knife. The problem is the regular bread knife would not want to cut through the bottom of the loaf. The Knife on the right is the Mercer Culinary Knife . It is also somewhat curved. It is now my primary bread knife from now on. A great buy for about 20 bucks.

Aggie: I have recently started baking sourdough and although my knives are regularly sharpened I could not get the slices as thin as I like without them looking a little hacked. This knife is heavy but it just glides through the bread, no vigorous sawing action needed, it’s so smooth and easy. Highly recommend. Made in Taiwan.

clew: I've tried every bread knife I already own and none of them cut my sourdough bread without a struggle. As soon as this knife arrived, I washed it and cut my bread with ease. I am very pleased with it and the fact that it could cut through the top crust and bottom crust without a problem. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good knife that does the job needed.

ND: I am absolutely thrilled with the Mercer Culinary Bread Knife! Not only is it a great value for the price, but it also delivers exceptional performance. Slicing through bread has never been so effortless – the knife glides through even the crustiest loaves without any resistance. The sharpness and precision of the blade are truly remarkable. Whether you're a seasoned chef or just someone who loves fresh bread, this knife is a must-have in your kitchen. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

N. Hyland: I learned that serrated knives do dull out and, my strait Gerber serrated strait knife is over 30 years old. Strait is OK for meat and tomatoes but, not so great for bread. The dull blade became apparent when it slipped on a crusty loaf, again. Time to update!
This Mercer is all that the reviewers say on TV and other non profit equipment review sites. However, I find the rubbery grip too grippy. In a pro kitchen, this is *ideal* but, for a home user, it is too grippy. I think a hard handle would be better. All my knives, from main chefs set Gerber, to Victorinox paring, to Rowoco tomato knife are hard or wood grips.
But, that aside, it cuts bread really good.
My easy to hold rating is for a home kitchen, not a pro setting. Since the grip is too grippy for home use, I took a star off Ergonomics and Maneuverability. The super grippy-ness gets a little in the way for a low speed home kitchen setting.

sealfrog: Excellent for both soft and hard crusty breads. No need to keep a separate knife for tender baked goods. Cleanly cuts without crumbs or squishing.
The serrations immediately bit into tough rind melons on first stroke without needing sawing to start the cut, without any dangerous slipping against hard skins. Made short work of skinning and slicing a hard rutabaga. Easy smooth thin slices for tomatoes.
Nicely balanced knife with awesomely comfortable ergonomic handle. Safety features: grippy not slippery when wet and handle designed with a soft bolster protecting fingers from the back of the blade.
This is a big knife, and it took a few minutes to get the feel of it. It does fit in a drawer. I stand it up on its serrations leaning against side of the drawer.
For the reviewer who could not cut through the bottom crust — This blade has a rounded end with no obvious tooth/serration sticking out, however the blade is sharp all the way to the end. To cut through a tough bottom crust, make one more slicing stroke with the handle tipped a bit upward, held high to put more pressure on the tip of the knife, which scores through the crust.

CAB: É a melhor faca de pão que já tive. A pega, o tamanho e a espessura da lâmina favorecem o corte dos pães. É possível até cortar uma fatia de pão de forma dos mais grossos em duas fatias.

DD Amazonian: I spent a lot of time researching bread knives - Victorinox bread knife was what I was originally heading for ordering having used this on several occasions with large crusty artisan bread at Stoke Park Hotel (apologies for diverting, but hey just checked hotel website and it looks like this historic Grade I hotel (James Bond Moonraker golf scenes filmed here) will reopen as a hotel, rather than going to a private individual. Yippee, so worth visiting even if not staying). Getting back to this wonderful knife:
I had found the Victorinox to be the best Bread Knive (having an extra long blade) to tackle large knobbly crust artisan bread, but luckily I stumbled on this knife and due to its low price thought it was worth a punt; ie if no good I would purchase Victorinox as originally intended.
Well this knife is even better, I took it to my mother's for a stay so she could try it. Ended up leaving it with her as she was equally impressed and getting another for myself. The only issue was storing it - cut pack carefully and stored for sometime before packing started to fall apart and thinking I must make effort to find some sort of protection for blade a too dangerous to...

Daniel Schroeder: This is an inexpensive knife that works rather well. I had a 100+ long serrated knife for many years and wanted a quick replacement. This is a suitable substitute.
