Hooliator: They're made of steel and sturdy. They look nice. And they have little rubber pads on the bottom. If I need more bookends, these are going to be the first ones I look at.
After some use I have finally found what they are NOT good for. These have horizontal support on only one side which means that when you pull a thick book out to look at it and the other books fall over, they can knock the bookend over toward the opposite side, especially if the books are taller than the bookend. I took off one star because of that.
They work great for smaller books or for CDs.

Patilu: These book ends are tall enough and the tab at the bottom that slides under the books is long enough that they hold books very securely. At the same time, the books ends are thin so they don't take up a lot of space horizontally. They are lightweight, yet they hold the books back firmly. Exactly what I have been needing.
I am using them for cookbooks and folders full of recipes that are approximately 9x12. I also use them in a kitchen cabinet to keep trivets and hot pads and gloves, things of that nature, pressed securely against one end of the cabinet to keep them neatly organized and so they're taking up as little space as possible. Since I'm using them in kitchen cabinets it doesn't really matter what they look, like but they are attractive.
