Brodie: This is a must read for any graphic novel fan, or anyone that is interested in graphic novels but not sure where to start. The storytelling is excellent and has you captivated from the start. Can't recommend this book (and the second) enough, its an award winner for a reason.

Chris Pederson: For me, reading this graphic novel was a way to see into the past and glimpse the horrors of Nazi Germany from the perspective of a Jewish family torn apart. The author, Art Spiegelman, did a fantastic job in his portrayal of the characters, bringing his father's story of survival to life. Credit to my university English prof for putting this on the recommended reading list. This book set is a unique portrait and I would recommend it for most.

Grant Sansom-Sherwill: (Review covers Maus I and Maus II).
In the 1980s, Art Spiegelman’s father, Vladek, recounts to him his life: growing up in Poland in the early 1900s, meeting and marrying his wife Anja, World War 2. In particular Vladek details his life as a Jew under the yoke of Nazi Germany: the harsh treatment, the concentration camps, the deaths he saw at the hands of the Nazis and what he did to survive. This is Vladek’s life story.
An incredibly interesting and emotional graphic novel. Biographical in that it tells the story of the author’s father’s life during WW2 – an incredibly harrowing ordeal. It highlights the atrocities experienced by Jews in Nazi Germany and how cheaply the Nazis valued their lives.
It also shows just how resourceful one had to be to survive and even then you had to be lucky. Vladek is incredibly resourceful but that only gets you so far.
Furthermore, Vladek’s life and the book show that it doesn’t end with WW2 as Vladek’s demons stay with him to his death. His experiences in Auschwitz and the like affect his relationships and how he goes about his everyday life. Incredibly emotional in that respect.

Chrystle White: The story is very powerful and creatively written using mice as the subjects. But very sad and true.
