liberal warrior: Be careful who you purchase from. I bought a used copy and it was sent in a flimsy cardboard envelope. By the time I got it, it looked like it had been dropped twice. The front cover had a large dent/cut in the bottom edge and the back cover was dented on the top and starting to separate from the binding. I returned it. I imagine the seller just threw it out.
As for the contents...decent sized pictures of the paintings. It's not a coffee table book...which would be nicer for viewing the paintings. The text is about Van Gogh's life while he was doing the painting. It's not about analyzing the paintings...what they mean or what makes them special. It is, however, made clear that whatever issues Van Gogh was going through, his paintings were not whimsical in terms of production. He knew exactly what he was doing technically. He was a master painter.

FsuholleyFsuholley: I almost bought a less expensive Van Gogh book. I am glad I didn’t. This is built like a college text book. The ink used for the photographs jumps of the page at you. Bright and crisp in detail. 1853-1890 The Complete Paintings, is destined to satisfy all. This book is not just a collection of Paintings. It is readable from cover to cover. I love Biographies and this will make a wonderful addition to my Library.

David Webb: I have just started reading his book BUT I have skimmed the photographs. This is the book to buy for loving Vincent. It is large but it is filled with glorious images of his work from A to Z. The commentary is excellent and is helpful when viewing his paintings. It also follows the different stages of paintings. Comments from his letters help us understand Vincent and shows the depth of his thoughts and aspirations. Bravo!

Arlene Coley: Definitely a coffee table book because it’s so heavy. The photos of the paintings are very clear. The text is helpful in getting a good picture of Van Gogh’s life. This was a Mother’s Day gift from my sons. So thankful for it. Will provide many years of enjoyment.
