montana: I lost a lot of sleep reading this book, it was hard to put down. At times bleak and hopeless the author keeps the reader engaged with the strength of the characters and their will to do anything to survive and protect the ones they love. An epic story of faith and courage.

Amazon Customer: The book was our book club's selection for the month of September. It generated an exciting, robust discussion that we all thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from. The writing in this book was so good that as I read it, I could visualize the story as if I was watching a movie. It was not only a page-turner, but also a history lesson. Add the messages of the power of love, resilience, positivity, and spirituality, and it is without doubt the best book I've read in a long time. Hopefully, we will see this book as a movie in the near future! Congratulation to the author!

M Trull: From the historical settings to the darkness of war, Sullivan brings light with the spiritual musings of a Romanian soldier who shows Emil the way to live with Spirit. Surviving the Stalin regime and the Nazis forged a core of steel in this family allowing them to survive and thrive with help from friends and above. Chilling in its descriptions, heartwarming in its truth, this is a book that will be remembered for both its darkness and its beauty.

Therese Hill: A gripping story of faith family and survival, this book will make you stay up all night to finish it. It lays out the brutality of that era in the challenges faced by a displaced family and yet is hopeful and inspirational. Not exaggerated - in my younger days I knew a woman who escaped West in a similar way.

david canford: I read this novel as it is by the author who wrote ‘Beneath a Scarlet Sky’ which I enjoyed. This book is also set during WW2 and based on a true story. It follows a German family whose ancestors had emigrated to the Ukraine and who are retreating with the German army in the final year of the war. It is overly long and repetitive in parts but still a good read, although not in my opinion of the same calibre as ‘Beneath a Scarlet Sky’. There is a significant religious content which will either speak to you or not depending upon your own preferences. I liked how at the end, there is an account of the lives of the real people after the war ended.

Amazon Customer: Powerful true story capturing so much detail an emotion. So much history in one book, traumatic, tearful and finally relief for a family who obviously went through so much pain.

Crazimayble: If you just need a good story about why we're all here... the answer isn't in this book but in between here and there it kinda makes you ask why not? The new day always dawns and why not reach for better within yourself.
