Marcy Recumbent Exercise Bike with Magnetic Resistance ME-709

Ed: I've used it for about one hour a day 4 times a week for a little over 2.5 years. That's around 500 hours or so and there have been no problems. I find it simpler to use a separate timer and increase the resistance through the workout instead of using the tracking system. The cushioned seat and the back support take the strain off my back and I can use weights for some arm and shoulder exercises while "riding". Initially there was a sort of ticking noise but that went away after several hours of use. There has also been some "squeaking" and I've had to re-tighten some nuts and bolts.
I highly recommend it. It's heavy but stable and I don't move it around much.

PebbleslocPebblesloc: I bought this bike 7/28/21 and it’s still perfect! I just needed something (anything) that I could start exercising. I’ve purchased so many “gym” items over the years, I could’ve opened one. This is the first piece of equipment I’ve stuck with and LOVE it! It’s easy on your joints and bones. The seat adjusts. I’m 5’1 and my husband is 6ft, neither one of us has any problems. I play games while I ride or watch a series on TV…makes the time go by quicker. It has 8 resistance levels but my husband was able to adjust it even more.

I just purchased new pedals because the left original pedal started squeaking and locking up. First, I was upset because I knew my time frame was completely gone to return or for FREE customer service. Long story short, my husband took it a loose and let me know it was an easy fix. The pics show the regular bike pedals (you have to get 1/2 inch) and they work perfect. Some people might need the shoe guard but I didn’t want it.
Still 5 stars because it’s still quiet and works great!

QuantumMechanicQuantumMechanic: And I'm extremely happy with it. It comes disassembled so you'll have to put some effort into getting it up and running. But I found the instructions very clear and the different sized bolts needed for different sections well labeled. My advice is to lay all the pieces out on the floor (hopefully a rug or carpet so save your knees and butt) and just plan on it taking a couple of hours. No reason at all to rush things. I actually found the process quite meditational, if that's even a word.

As to the performance it's very good. Several levels of resistance and though the first two don't do a whole lot you should bear in mind that I'm a 6' male who does 100 squats a day so I've pretty strong legs. I usually use the highest setting and feel like I'm getting a decent workout (the faster you pedal the greater your cardio obviously). I think my favorite thing is parking this thing in front of the boob tube, putting on a movie and forget I'm even working out. I'm a fan of the electronics. Albert Sheppard: Very easy to put together. Some reviews state installation problems. Regarding wires being easy to install backwards, I would suggest the manufacturer place a white line on each half of wire connector to allow for easy matching when connecting wires. Some reviews also state it is difficult to adjust the seat forward or backward. I found if you screw the adjustment knob too tight it does make it difficult to move the bar when you pull the pin up. All you have to do is back the adjustment screw off a couple turns and then the seat floor bar moves quite easily when the pin is lifted. Adjustment is then easily accomplished by yourself. I have bad knees and found after 35 minute workout it does not bother my knees. I have only used the bike twice so far, but I am impressed with it so far, Especially the great price. It is very quiet, easy to move and takes up very little space. Some reviews state monitor scrolls from time to speed to calories constantly. All you have to do is press mode until you get the data reading you want. Then press the set button and it will stay on your selection. Putting it together was easy. I've used it for up to about an hour and fifty minutes at one time and found it comfortable at all times. It is very quiet and the readout is easy to see and easy to use. The feet stay in the stirrups easily. Adjusting length for different inseam lengths is very easy and quick.

A few small negatives (very small considering the price of the bike):

1. I think the distance measured is higher than it should be for the amount of work. It's hard to be sure since I don't own a road bike, the roads around my place aren't flat and quite a bit of my outdoor riding is on dirt roads, but the distance measured by the ME 709 seems to build up at a faster pace than I can maintain outdoor near home.

2. There is a fair bit of difference between adjacent resistance levels, which might provide temporary difficulty for some people.

Of course, a budget recumbent bike isn't likely to be suitable for strong, serious cyclists.

3. The calorie counter seems to rely on distance (perhaps and resistance level, though I'm not sure...

Rednal: To preface this review, I like the bike itself. The main issue I had was with the manufacturer. Amazon was generally helpful throughout my experience getting this bike set up, and the customer service representative who helped me did an excellent job.

Now, I originally ordered this bike from Amazon, and delivery was exactly what you'd expect - a couple of days in transit and bam, big box on the front porch. However, when I opened the box to assemble the bike, I found out that the stabilizers (the two horizontal cylinders at the bottom of the bike, acting as "feet") didn't fit. They'd been cut wrong, so it was only possible to fit the screws through on one side. That's not acceptable for a product like this because if those stabilizers come loose, the user could fall and hurt themselves.

Now, the papers that come with the bike ask buyers to contact the manufacturer for technical support, so I shrug and do that. Amazon probably doesn't have individual replacement parts in their warehouses, so yeah. I wait on the phone for a while and eventually get with a rep from the manufacturer, and they say that the parts I need are in-stock and will be sent out...

Mr. J.Mr. J.: What really impressed me as I unboxed and assembled the bike - was just how well built it was - very solid. The instructions were okay but I suggest watching a You Tube video on assembling this bike. The computer monitor really did need some suggestions of how to insert the wiring. With the help of You Tube...it went quickly.

Once on the bike - it felt sturdy....a few tweaks and bolt tightening removed any movement. The flywheel is particularly smooth and I felt no difference from much more expensive fitness centre bikes. The monitor is basic - but provides most of what you need to know during a workout. (time, calories, distance, speed etc.). There is no holder for a phone or tablet....but that I imagine could be added to the post at some point.

The adjustment for leg length is manual and a bit stiff but not something you are doing continuously so not an issue. What IS important is you can be over 6 FT and be comfortable as well as just over 5 FT!

Having just had hip surgery and unable yet to ride an upright bike....the Marcy really has permitted me to "get back in the saddle" and get some aerobic activity and leg muscle strengthening. There are 8 resistance...
