The Lutron SFSQ-FH-WH Electronics Slide-To-Off Fan Speed Control is the perfect choice for those looking for a wall control for their ceiling fan. This white control comes in an elegant design that blends seamlessly with any décor. It is easy to install and use, making it a great value for money. This fan control is equipped with three speed settings, allowing you to customize the fan speed to your liking. It also works perfectly with one ceiling paddle fan. Overall, this fan speed control offers great performance and is a great choice for those looking for a reliable and stylish wall control for their ceiling fan.Canadian Purchaser: The unit worked well when initially installed, but when I tried to just slightly adjust the position in the socket there was a big bang, the smell of burnt insulation, and everything stopped working. For some reason the power wire to the unit touched something or was pinched - I don't know, but the unit was charred and non functional. I had to buy a totally different unit from a local store to get the fan working for that weekend

Gabriel's Buddy: Works well controlling my fan using a dedicated circuit. I removed the remote control circuitry from my ceiling fan and wired the fan power wire to this controller which is now responsible for managing the electrical power going to the fan. It works well, with three on speeds and one off. For reasons I'm not sure, it also has the ability to reverse the fan by turning the fan on and off quickly. If I do that a few times I can get the fan to reverse direction. I think that is a property of the fan and not the switch.
I started with two switches in a junction box with separate wires; one for the fan and one for the light. But the power was wired so that either switch powered an electronic control unit that could control both fan and light and set fan speed and light intensity. This was awkward and confusing as you had to turn on one switch and then use the remote and the other switch did nothing. Instead I pulled out the electronic control unit from within the ceiling fan and wired the fan and light to each switch separately. For the fan I used this controller; for the light an LED dimmer switch. Now the controls are intuitive and easy.

Jax: These are amazing. Originally i bought one from Home Depot and it was $4 more per switch. We wanted to be sure it worked and was quiet before we bought one for all our fans. It needs extra space in the electrical box because of the motor extending in the back, so you will need to tuck wires "creatively " but we fit this and a rocker switch with caps on all connections with some creative tucking. If you are wanting a fan dimmer i highly highly recommend these. They are silent (some motors will hum a bit from the switch itself, not just the fan hum). If you want a quiet wonderful product this is it.

DNFF: Bought this for my ceiling fan that doesn't have a chain to control the speed; it had a remote control, but I used that for another fan in the house. Easy install, looks great, and allows us to control the fan speed. There are 4 levels that you can set the slider to:
1) All the way UP/TOP = HIGH
2) 1 below TOP = MED
3) 1 above BOTTOM = LOW
4) All the way DOWN/BOTTOM = OFF
I like this better than those where the OFF switch is immediately after the HIGH setting. It seems to make sense to be able to start the motor slowly then work it's way to the high setting, but what do I know... I'm not a fan engineer. I don't see any sparks or hear any zapping while using the switch. I just bought 2 more for 2 other fans in my house.

MontereyGreg: Same Lutron quality I have come to expect. Installation is very simple and if you're not familiar with doing electric work, the included install sheet is very clear. Have an electrician help you if you don't know basic electricity.
The control is very simple to use. Bottom is OFF. Slide the control up to select from Low, Medium, and High speeds. I am using this on a Hunter fan and leave the fan's switch set to High. There is no extra noise from the fan or switch when using it. The fan runs at the same High speed as it did without the switch. The Low speed is a bit faster than I would like, but if I use the Fan's switch to go to Medium or Low it will slow down even more.
I have a matching dimmer in the same switch box that matches the look of this fan switch. Nice finish and looks great installed.

Pamela J. Peerce Landers: Although I have all the tools necessary to install any switch, the only ones you will need to install this fan switch are a screwdriver to remove the old switch and a pair of pliers to straighten the old wires.
So, if you are game, this is all you have to do:
1. Turn off the power to the fan. Either turn off the breaker or unscrew the fuse.
2. Remove the screws from the cover plate and put them in a bowl so you don’t lose them.
3. Grab the switch and pull it out of the electrical box as far as it will go to give you room to work.
4. The hot wires are generally black or red. The neutral wires are white. The ground wires are green or uninsulated.
5. This switch has no neutral (white) wire, so if your old one does, like mine did, unscrew the wire nut holding together the white wires, remove the neutral wire from the old switch and screw the wire nut back on. Using your fingers or the blunt end of your pliers, push the neutral bundle as far back into the electrical box as you can.
6. Now, you need to disconnect the ground and hot wires from the old switch. Unscrew the wire nuts and remove the old switch wires. Use your pliers to straighten the hot...
