JLE: I purchased this for use in our kitchen's breakfast nook to allow adjusting the brightness and for shutting off the lines when everybody had left the table.
Installation was fairly straightforward and it took all of 30 minutes to swap the switch and configure it to my liking.
The only thing that stumped me for a moment was the green ground wire coming off the frame, and what I thought was also a green ground screw. A quick consult of the directions declared that the screw was actually blue (still looks more green to me) and it was only needed if wiring with multiple switches.
I see folks complaining that their LED's flicker with this switch. They need to make sure that the LEDs are actually dimmable. While the switch works with LEDs, the bulbs ALSO have to be dimmable. If the bulb drivers are not designed to be dimmable they will flicker.
I also see folks complaining that it is hard to configure. There are four settings you can set, each with no more than four choices to select with each. You only have to set the ones you want to change from the defaults.
For those on the West Coast, this switch meets California Title 24 building requirements...

midwest60115: It was easy to install as far as wiring is concerned.
Programming it was very difficult.
I wanted it to shut off the lights in the bathroom after 1 minute of no motion. The default setting is 5 minutes. I wanted the lights to be at the "dim" level when I walked into the room. Trying to follow the written directions was confusing. I finally went to youtube and the Lutron guy explained it very carefully and I followed him step by step. Even following the Lutron you tube, it did not work. I was going to send it back but decided to call the 1 800 #. The tech took me thru step to step and got it to work. He gave me more steps than were in the instructions and that were on line. Still confusing, but it works well. Confused???? Don't wait to call tech support as long as I did. Frustration but finally relief ! : )
Update 11/18/23: I'd go with something else. The warm air from the heating vent makes it turn on, as well as any time I walk past the BR in the hallway. These sensitivities can be adjusted, but who wants to figure it out? ? ?

Phil: We had a 3 way light in our hallway in a dark part of the house where the switches weren't in the easiest spots to access. I swapped out the central one with this motion activated dimmer switch as we have a baby on the way and thought this would make it easier to turn on the lights in the middle of the night while ensuring it could be dimmed instead of full brightness. If you've swapped out light switches before, this one is easy enough and the only trick was that with the 3 way, I needed the other one in the ON position for this one to be active. It's easy to program using the instruction manual, and the motion detection works extremely well (catches you coming around the hallway corner or out of rooms and turns on as you are entering the hallway). We've set it to turn on to the last used brightness, so before bed I turn it to a dimmer setting and in the morning keep it closer to full brightness. Very useful and works so well that I wish I'd installed it a year ago when I first thought about it!

Amazon Customer: I normally always use the Lutron on/off motion switches, though after buying this and installing, it’s nice to not hear the loud click the old style makes. This unit makes no noise at all and I’ll eventually replace the on/off Lutron units with these.

Julian LamJulian Lam: Dead easy to install (perhaps "dead" isn't the right wording? hah!). No faffing around with neutral wires. Just plug in the hot wires, attach a ground, and flip the power back on. I did mention to turn power off before installing, right?
Box comes with everything you could possibly need... merettes, an extra wire, lots and lots of instructions... only thing you need is a faceplate, but those are a buck, so whatever.
The light comes on gradually and there is a rocker switch so you can select which brightness it will illuminate to next time you walk into the room. Perfect for nights when you just want a little bit of illumination (or in my case, when I have a baby on my lap).

Amazon Customer: Works as it says. Very easy to install. Only thing not 5 star is because of the instructions, which are confusing. Once understood how it works, it’s fine. But will need to keep the instructions paper it’s too complicated to remember, even after understanding it.

JohnnieMo: I have a couple of the Vacancy versions of this sensor, and I just bought one of the occupancy versions. Carefully review the specs so you buy the right one. The occupancy sensor (OP) turns on automatically when you enter the room and turns off 5 minutes after you leave. It also has the dimmer which has about 8 discrete settings. All these things are adjustable, including the sensitivity.
I installed this on a circuit of 8 LED lamps in my garage. The idea is it replaces the crappy light on the garage door opener which turns on whenever the car enters the garage. So far it is working beautifully.
When you select one of these be sure to calculate your overall power usage. These babies get hot if you run them with more power than they are rated for. Further, if you put more than one in a box, the limit goes down. This is due to how much heat they create . The switch itself is quite large so you can't stuff any wires in behind it unless you have an extra deep box.
Its a good switch at a good price. I recommend. Just do your homework.

Joe Mooney: This Lutron MSCL-OP153M motion sensor dimmer costs more than others, but if you are sensitive about your home environment, it may well be worth it to you. I have installed 3 of these in my home during the past few years, and am very pleased with them. I was on the verge of purchasing a fourth switch when amazon offered me a free one as part of the vine program, in exchange for writing a review - an offer I just couldn’t resist.
If your light switch is in a favorable location, you can replace it with a motion sensor and the lights will turn on automatically when you walk into the room. Very handy in places like garages, laundry rooms, workshops - basically any room you tend to enter with your hands full.
The most obvious thing setting these Lutron Maestro sensors apart, is the pleasant, soothing, fade-to-on and fade-to-off effect. When we come home at night, our hall lights smoothly fade to on as we walk through the front door. We no longer need a constantly burning night-light in the bathroom: as a guest enters the room the lights gracefully fade-on, and then turn themselves off just as gracefully a few minutes after the room is vacated.
Other, less...
