Rebecca M: I read The Giver (first book in the series) in high school and always wanted to own my own copy. I decided to get the st as east light reading for before bed or during travel. The hardcover is good quality and the design fits well on my bookshelf.

Darlene: This boxed quartet set arrived in excellent condition and was well packaged. As a bonus it included a colorful map of all the destinations visited in these books. This is a gift to my neighbor's 12 y/o daughter who is reading The Giver as a class project. She will love these additional books that continue the storyline along with the map.

Caitie Barragan: The giver Quartet is a great series. In some schools, the book giver might be required rating, but if your child wants to go further after the book is finished, then they can certainly do that. The first book is called the giver. It’s about a 12-year-old boy who gets selected to do something that no one else in the community except for certain people where he lives can do. The next book is called gathering blue. That’s about a girl named Kira who finds that she can stitch things together Out of threads that she is taught how to dye to make different colors. The third book is called Messenger. This one is about a boy named Mattty who finds that he can make things better for other people, this one has a sad ending to it. The fourth book is called Son, this one actually has three sections. The sections are before, this part takes place during the book giver. There is a character that is introduced named Claire, she’s actually in the whole book. The next part of Son is called between, in this part of the book, the main character is washed ashore on an island, she is shown the way out of the island by someone that she gets really close to. The third part is called beyond. In this...

Joe G.: Personally, not a fan of the series but it is YA lit so I'm not really the target audience. Kid likes the book series and this box with some extras - so all in all - if you have a fan of the series buy them the set.

Jay M: I am a teacher and enjoyed reading the Lois Lowry set - I purchased 2 sets through you about 3-4 years ago and I can honestly say my Grade 4 and Grade 5 students love them. - the discussions are very lively - and amazing is the points of view/critcal literacy comments they come out with - one thing I find is that students often agree/disagree which leads to lively discussions as they examine each other's opinions - they can become very animated and their oral language has improved 100 fold.

The favorite for all of them is The Giver - I like to think they can also give encouragement to everyone of their classmates - what a great life lesson.

Viral Products: I actually enjoyed the first book, but I was a little disappointed by how little action there was. But maybe that's just because I saw the movie first. When I first saw the movie I thought it was good, but not great. When I watched it again after reading the book, it seemed incredible. Probably because the book is so boring. I really like the society the author created, but there is so little action it was a real disappointment when I reached the end. I kept expecting something to happen, but it never did. The best thing about the book was that is was short. That's not a good sign. Usually books are better than movies. Not in this case. And things only got worse as the series progressed. No wonder they didn't make a second movie.

Book 1 (3 stars): As I mentioned above, the concepts are very ingenious and could have made for a great story. But the lack of action ruined things. It was still a relatively enjoyable read.
Book 2 (2 stars): The author pretty much took everything good about the first book and removed it. I was actually relieved each time I finished a chapter.
Book 3 (2 stars): Like all books in the series, the story focused on a different character. Like in...

Krissi H: One very important detail to note: This is not a "series" in the traditional sense, i.e. it doesn't have a continuous storyline that runs chronologically from book one to book four. Rather, it's more of a "collection" of four distinct and separate stories connected by a common theme and overlapping of characters with the final book providing a satisfying resolution to the quartet.

In "The Giver", we are introduced to a community in a dystopian future in which emotions are chemically suppressed. Although on the surface this creates a pleasant, productive society free from emotions like anger, jealousy and hate, it's also lacking in love, joy and empathy. Spouses are not chosen, they're assigned with the soul purpose of raising and guiding the next generation of children. Babies are not born into their families, they are born to women who's job it is to birth them, then they are cared for in a facility until they're assigned to a family unit. Babies deemed unfit for placement are "released" from the community. The main character, a boy named Jonas, is assigned the job of Receiver of Memories. As the Receiver, he receives the "memories" of emotional experiences (both good and...
