Trevor B: First off I would only suggest this if you're doing Saltwater aquariums. It will absolutely work for freshwater, however you can just use seachem prime on tap water, and just throw a hose from the faucet to the tank and you're good to go, so you can avoid the hassle of having to make water slowly and store it.
For saltwater this thing takes out the worry of bad water for your fish, so you just mix salt into this RODI water, and you're good to go assuming you store it properly. My one recommendation would be that if you have a larger tank(honestly anything more than 20 gallons) I highly recommend getting a bigger model that can produce more water quicker. This says that it produces 75 gallons a day, which my first though was "thats fine, thats how big my tank is, so I can do it in a day." What I didnt think about was the fact that for salt water aquariums you need to have a lot more water stored for water changes, quarantining new fish, and emergencies. I have a 30 gallon drum and a 44 gallon drum to store water in, and it took a few days to fill them. Since I dont want to leave the water running overnight and risk them overflowing in my garage, I would only run them during the...

LilyLily: My 5-stage RODI system came with a busted gardenhose adapter and customer service is nonexistent, so I had to order an $8 replacement off of their website. That was exceedingly frustrating and delayed the usage of the system for a week but finally after getting the thing operational, it is working perfectly. No leaking, I didn't have to take apart or reseal mine like some other commenters did, mine simply worked. I use mine in my bathroom as I live in an apartment building with no access to a gardenhose. It works perfectly though inside. The waste water can go straight down the drain, while I fill up the RODI water in 1 gallon jugs in my tub. It keeps things cleaner. The water that comes out is 0 TDS. My municipal city water is about 300 TDS, so if your tap is in about that range, I expect you'll get the same 0 TDS output I got. If it's higher or you have well water, it might be worth it to purchase the 6-stage system instead. I use the RODI water remineralized in my shrimp and discus tanks. Fish that are notoriously picky and sensitive to their water, and this works perfectly. I'd say it was worth my time even for the week of frustration getting no response from customer service...

Phil Clark: First & foremost this system turns dirty Detroit tap water into honest-to-god consistent 0 TDS water, which is critical for my saltwater aquarium, so I measure it with a TDS meter. Its output volume is at least 80% of the stated capacity, and more like 90+% when the filters etc are new and clean. Very satisfied overall!

Now that being said, 4 stars & not 5 for the following reasons-

#1 the threaded adapter doesn't fit any of my standard sink fittings and it took 2 trips to the hardware store to get it connected properly. I believe it is designed for a garden hose only.

#2 the DI resin cartridge wears out very fast. Even Detroit tap water is still filtered treated tap water, not well, no smell, safe to drink (which I do regularly). I have burned through 2 resin cartridges in the 12 months that I've had this thing, and I'm into the third. I make 10 gal per week of RO/DI water (if that), so each resin cartridge only lasts about 280 gallons max. The stated capacity is 50 GPD, so if you were running it continuously for long stretches of time, you'd need to replace the resin every 5-6 days. Thought it would last longer! I called them to inquire / complain....
