Shelley and Dave: This is the best ice cream machine I’ve purchased. It doesn’t stop churning before ice cream is a good consistency! The other machines less than half the price will not freeze to a thick consistency before they stop churning. It is expensive but we have used it so much already because it works! Forget the powder mixes stick with whole milk recipes with a tiny bit of Guar gum powder and you’ll have the best homemade ice cream! Super happy!!!

babymastodon: The product mostly meets expectations, but the packaging leaves something to be desired.

The "new" product was covered in a bunch of sticky substance, which needed to be cleaned before the first use. As the product was purchased new, I can only conclude that the factory decided to cover the product with melted ice cream before placing it in the final packaging. Seems like a rather odd packaging decision, in my opinion.

After thoroughly cleaning the machine and running a few test batches, the overall performance is pretty good, but not outstanding. That being said, this is my first ice cream machine, so I don't know how cheaper models work.

The freezing performance meets expectations. It is able to freeze 1L of ice cream mix from 36F to 20F in under 10 minutes. The dasher arm is well-callibrated, staying within 1mm of the bowl everywhere except near the top on one side of the bowl, where the gap reaches 3mm.

The only issue is that the dasher motor is a tiny bit too weak. The motor stalls out shortly after reaching goopy soft-serve consistency. I would fear a bit about machine longevity, if the motor stalls out so easily.

Perry O: This is my 5th ice cream maker and by far the best and most expensive.

Pros:
- Fast. it takes less than 30 minutes to have ice cream
- Large - can generate large volumes of ice cream
- Powerful motor
- Easy to clean (just put some hot water in the reservoir and use a towel to absorb).
- Appearance - looks like it is built to last

Cons:
- Price. If you make ice cream only a couple of times a year - the cost does not make sense
- Size. The machine weighs a ton.

Paul Otto: The only problem we have had is that the blade started peeling off its Teflon (?) finish after about 100 uses. We found some of the finish in the ice cream. Keep an eye out for this.

Sharkfang: A little background from me, I'm an engineer that is currently looking to open up an ice cream parlor, so I know a lot about ice cream and equipment. I bought the Lello Musso Pola 5030 as a testing ice cream machine that is used specifically for testing small batches under 2 quarts.

I have an Emery Thompson CB-350 ($10,000) and a Breville smart scoop Ice cream machine ($399). The CB-350 is a full on commercial ice cream machine I use for making large quantities. I would use that machine to make test batches but it is too large. If I tried to put 1 quart or 2 quarts of ice cream to churn in there, the machine would freeze up and start making grinding noises because it freezes too fast.

So I went out to find an ice cream machine for testing purposes that is near the quality of my emery thompson without spending over $1,500. I needed an ice cream machine that was capable of freezing ice cream under 15-20 min and was of commercial quality grade. Let me tell you guys, you will not find a commercial grade ice cream machine that would freeze 2 quarts of ice cream in under 20 minutes that is priced under $1,500 other than the Lello Musso Pola 5030.

vm2: This would have been a 5 star review, if not for a couple of bothersome problems. First, I bought this machine based on the review of a lady who had researched and used the same model, and gave an excellent, detailed review to the model. She even covered the point of her obtaining excellent customer service by Lello's U.S. representative when she had a problem. I cannot find her review now, but it was excellent; however some problems have developed, I guess since her purchase date. I purchased my machine in January 2013.

My machine arrived from Amazon in apparent good condition, until I looked at the mixing paddle. It was scarred, its welds looked as if someone with no experience had welded the paddle arms on the center tube-hub, it had holes in the botched welds which go through to the inside of the center hub and there is a non-sealed seam where the plastic washer meets the metal inside the hub. It is, in fact, so nicked and poorly done, that I thought it was a returned piece that was re-used for my machine. The holes in the welds have proven to be hard to clean, as has the un-sealed plastic-to-metal seam inside the hub.
