Kwikset SmartCode 888 Smart Lock Touchpad Electronic Deadbolt Door Lock with 98880-005 Code Access

Mike: Bought this for my security screen door. I already have one on each of my 3 entry doors, all kwikset and all a different z-wave deadbolt.
I hesitated because of the low price, however this installed just as easy as the others and looks pretty darn good too. It sucked right on to my hub and has been working flawless for about a month now.
It’s a nice and well working z-wave deadbolt.
I do recommend this.

MadMac: I bought this thru Amazon refurbished 8/1/2020. The finish on the upper right corner had a small ding; which didn't matter to me; so happy with the price.

I had to run ZWave exclusion on it since it was probably paired with original purchaser's network. Once I figured that out it was easy to connect to my SmartThings hub. Happy with that, full remote unlock/lock via SmartThings wherever I am.

Install was relatively simple, and would have been shorter had I not rushed and had to redo a few steps. The hardest part was routing out the striker plate on the jamb to use the stronger deeper bolts that come in the kit. There's a business opportunity for someone to figure out how to router a door jamb perfectly without over-routering the hell out of it :).

Because it was refurb, the original owner must have set their smartkey to it because the provided keys did not turn the lock. Found a youtube video on how to reset Kwikset smartkey without original key. Tedious, but simple work to fix and I got the keys working without issue. It would have been nicer if Amazon refurb team would have done this to ensure the included keys in the kit actually worked.

Amanda Nelson: We haven't tried using the lock and unlock from a distance, but it is working very well as a code door lock on our vacation home. We programmed several different codes into it so we can give each guest their own code and then delete it as necessary. I also have a code for a local contact and for ourselves. Programming in the codes was easy and it does give an indication that the battery is running low. Heed that warning as it doesn't last long after the warning (it may be longer than we think because we don't live there full time).

Lee: Super easy install! All you need are a phillips head and flat head screwdriver and 20 or 30 minutes. Works great through SmartThings hub and Alexa and Google Home. The reason for four stars is the Zwave radio seems to be weak. The 888 SmartCode would lose network connection every so often (about once a day) with the SmartThings hub. I truly believe this is a Kwikset problem as we have sensors beyond the lock that have maintained communication with the hub when it was down. I moved the hub into a closer, line of site position and so far so good. We will be moving in a few months and I will definitely invest in some Zwave repeaters to prevent this. I'll update if the problem persists. Otherwise, just be sure your Zwave hub is line of site and/or close enough or have a repeater.

Luv to Shop!Luv to Shop!: I've installed 2 of these locks for my house. Front and back doors. I chose this brand because we've used Kwikset before. I like the fact that we can use our existing keys for our new locks. Very easy to re-key your locks. I've been wanting to install these locks for some time now. I'm happy that I finally did. There's 5 of us in our household, and we each have our own codes. This lock will allow you to set up upto 30 codes, 4-8 #s. If you want to use the Z-wave, you need a hub. I bought the SmartThings from Amazon (of course) for about $68 bucks.

I already have the app in my Samsung phone, all I had to do is add the device (hub). As soon as I set up the hub, I was able to connect the lock in the app. Now I can lock/unlock via phone. This lock is also compatible w/Alexa. Easy to set up as well. Now I can ask Alexa to lock my doors :-) This lock also has the capability to auto lock too!

The only bad thing about this lock is that the buttons do not light up. Other than this, I'm quite happy with this product. I now have ONLY 2 keys hanging from my key chain. Key to my car and house :-) I would definitely recommend this product!
