Jon M: I feel confident in the results of this device as a continuity tester. Unfortunately, with long runs, it is not equipped to show resistance, inductance, and other bits of information necessary for gigabyte transmission. That all being said, it does an excellent job at which it was designed. Unless you are running cable for a living, this is certainly adequate. (If you are concerned about a single, never to be repeated, 50 meter run, you are better off spending $200 or so on a good cable.)

P. Dugas: I installed a network in my house and used the LAN cable tester to checkout all of my wires. The tool said I had a good connection and I confirmed it when I hooked up the cables to my network.

Patrick: I expected to see 8 lights to test each strand on the Cat cable, there are none, but it did report a bad cable which I fixed and then it showed that it is in working condition.
