jmriddell24: I installed 4 of these alarms and they activated when the house became filled with smoke from a fire that was actually outside. The smoke was blowing towards the house and getting in through the eaves of the roof. The alarms activated and let us know about the carbon monoxide that was building up in the air. We were able to call the fire department and get the house vented out to a safe level after the fire was put out. One of the alarms would randomly go off after the incident so I called the customer support number and spoke to a real person over the phone instead of some robot. The guy spoke in good clear English and said that he would send us a replacement for free as the smoke most likely damaged one of the alarms. About 2 weeks later the alarm came and is working just fine. I am testing one of them out with using rechargeable NIMH 9 volt batteries in an effort to reduce battery waste pollution and so far it is working just fine.

Dad: When it comes to CO or fire you have to be careful. This unit is a great addition to your home as it covers both CO and fire and it has two sources of power, a plug-in and a battery!

plymouth2014: I bought 5 of these for my home about 10 years ago and all but one have been trouble free. One unit started sounding the 'end of life' chirp after about 3 years and Kidde replaced it for free even without a receipt. I like that the backup battery compartment is on the front for an easy battery yearly battery change. I just replaced all of them again with the same unit for hopefully another 10 years of reliable service. *Note: Dust can set these off so cover them if doing a home remodeling/sanding and I would suggest vacuuming them every once in a while. States have different requirements for Smoke/CO2 detectors so check you local regs to make sure these meet requirements.

SGom: Received a similar-looking unit that was 9V battery only, not a 120VAC wired unit with battery back up. Returned to vendor with no issues. Make sure to inspect what you receive.
