JenJen: I believe this is the last time I look at good reviews. I bought this door on all the good reviews but not one person warned that this door really is NOT weather proof if you don't have a complete covered patio shielding the wind. Look at the pics during a normal sunny day with a light breeze, and I do mean LIGHT breeze. You can see the door to the left opening and pretty much staying open. When its just a little more wind the door flies completely open and bugs, flies still coming into the house. I was soo disappointed because to find another door with the exact measurements as this one would be impossible. Now if you had a big covered patio it will shield all the wind. I should have looked into a double flap. The magnets on this door is very weak if a slight wind keeps it open. During a rain storm I have to close it off because the first time I didn't I had a flood in my laundry room. The man who installed it did an excellent job with no flaws. Sealed perfectly and everything cut precisely, but after only a few months the magnets on the door barely held in mild winds. it looked more like an open hole in the door because I live in the country where wind is normal, I just thought...

Alan Mac: Works as advertised. The plastic screw supplied are a bit inadequate. I used my own bolts instead and the assembly was solid. My 2 Boxers figured out the the door quickly.

John Zelowsky: Easy to install and the frame holds up well. Unfortunately, the flap absolutely does not hold up. I’ve had 2 of these and the flap starts falling off after a couple months. It should be sturdier material and be reinforced where it hinges/is bolted to the top of the door. So it’s great, but it sucks. Make sense?

Paula: I have an x-large doggie door, put this was smaller then the original one so had to add some filler to stay in place and fit. The flap is very thin and only the one magnetic strip at the bottom (last door was a heavy duty magnetic strip on the sides and bottom and flap was 3 layers), which at times when the pups go thru, the flap does not lock back. . and when it is just a slight breeze blowing. . the flap swings open letting the cold air in (did this end of Jan 2020). . This is why i was replacing the old door for (had for 8+ yrs - my pup (he has passed) would get mad at one of other pups and bit at the flap). . and if a strong wind you have to close with the door cover. . which defeats why you have a doggie door. . last door had a 3 sides strong magnetic strip to hold against some strong breezes. .so i rarely closed the door. .only when my landscapers came to cut the grass. Also the doggie door cover is not good if you have a window on the top half off your door that is framed . . it is a chore to slip it in place. The way my big high energy boys run thru the door i need a heavy duty flap/door quality. This doggie door will not hold up to my pups. I found and ordered the...

B. Kreps: This is for the X-Large door.

Assume you don’t mind that the screws mounting the flap extrude half an inch and can stab you or your dog. And that you’re ok with a company who charges this much and doesn’t have product manuals on their website (an accusation I’m happy to take back when the website is redesigned to a respectable way.). And never mind the fact that a replacement flap is near half the price of the door.

Are you going to also accept that the slide-in cover was designed with a spring lock that is pushed *into* your door so as to scratch your door as you lift it all the way up or down (the dog door wasn't unsightly enough right? Here’s a 2foot scratch!). The spring lock also has the same lovely ergonomics of a nail.

So much wrong with this door you could compete with this company by hiring junior high students to better engineer it. Don’t waste your money.

loveAmazonloveAmazon: I had to buy this to replace my old XL Classic PetSafe door, because they stopped making the replacement flaps... in the XL size. They still make the Classic flaps in the smaller sizes, but not the XL size. VERY ANNOYING! The Classic version wasn't the best door out there, but for mild SF Bay Area, and the ability to buy replacement flaps, it was functional. Now, with the XL version no longer made, I had to choose whether to buy the Freedom door to replace, or start again with a different company (and size). Because I already have a hole cut in my door, I decided to go with PetSafe again to get something that would fit in the old cut-out. The new Freedom door is similar in size, but but not exactly the same as the old Classic version. On paper it looked very close, though I could see that the cut-out for new dorr was slightly wider, but also smaller in height. The internal "go-through" specs are similar. But the CUT-OUT in the door is MUCH SMALLER/SHORTER in height, and slightly wider. After pulling out the old frame, it took a LOT of power sanding to fit the width. That part was okay, but making the cut out SMALLER in height was more problematic. It was only supposed to be 3/8"...

Edward: I purchased & Installed these pet doors first part of Feb 2014 for about $50 each & they worked great until today Dec 2016 -31°C with wind chill They got brittle and broke off about a 2 inches below the flap bolts,
I think they did a good service for the dog houses with a nice tight seal while they lasted &
I will be looking for a more pliable material or better hinge system because there is room for some improvement on these doors simply because
the 10+ year old 2 ply canvas dog doors on the old kennels are getting ragged but still functioning
