MDS: This is a great book. 4 yr old Ruthie loves her sheshells and we share much time reading about them, painting them and sorting them and doing projects. I buy the shells at thrift stores. We are in northern Illinois, not many sheshells here!

Mary H.: I bought each of my grand children (ages 6 & 8) a book to take with us on a trip to the Oregon Coast. It was their first trip to Oregon beaches. The activities were fun and didn’t make the book seem like “homework”. Given help with the reading, this book would be great for even younger kids, too. I think ages 3-8 would enjoy this book.

Jamie L: We took a winter vacation at th e beach and collected seashells for our young grandchildren. But we wanted them to know about the shells instead of just looking at them. So we ordered this book to send along with the shells. The kids loved it and the book covered all kinds of animals. I made it a more personal gift that was also educational.

E: It explained well what kind of animals live in shells - went well with beach shells

Bela Brahmbhatt: Everything was excellent.

Perky: Bought this book after returning from Florida with shells for my grand daughter. She doesn’t know what shells are so the book did a great job describing them.

JKW: Nicely illustrated book. I looked at various children's books about shells (there are a limited number), and this one seemed to be the best with its illustrations and text. I bought the book for a soon-to-be 3 year old, and felt this one would give him the best description / explanation of shells. My intent is to give him a small box of seashells, and a book to go along with them. I believe this book will work well.

Reader: We have most of the Level 1 books. They are a great introduction to science for little children. The only reason these don't get five stars is because a slightly bigger font size would have made these books excellent.

Z Hayes: My 6.5-year-old daughter has developed a keen interest in science and though these Stage 1 books are recommended for pre-school-K level kids, I thought they would make a nice introduction to science and that she would be able to read them independently. This title is an excellent way to get children to understand how shells can provide homes for all kinds of creatures such as snails, turtles, crabs, scallops, etc.

It was interesting for my daughter to discover that whelks and conchs are types of snails that are only found by the seaside. I pulled out my collection of seashells and we had fun comparing the different kinds of shells to those portrayed in the book. The book is not only filled with interesting facts but lots of beautiful full-color illustrations that make for an educational and engaging reading experience.
