D. Blevins: Tough Love by a tough father with witty humor. I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this!

Corin Birchall: I hadn’t seen the twitter feed when I came across this book. Really, really funny, and Justin’s story-telling is great.

It’s a really easy read, and pretty short, given the pages dedicated to quotes. You could do it in 1 or 2 days max on holiday - so you may need to pack another book too.

Robert L. Grohs: A heart warming piece of literature. Justin has written a book that most of us, growing up in the 70,s to 90,s can relate to.
A strong recommendation to read.

So Mom Point (Lisa): This is by far the funniest book I have ever read. I have read it a few different times and each time I laugh so hard.

ALH: This is a great book! However, even though I know it was used, it said good condition and I th8nk this was more like fair condition.

PR: A book that makes me laugh out loud may not be on a path to the Nobel Prize for Literature but who gives a s*** if it makes you happy. Not since the heyday of Bill Bryson travelogues have I found it so difficult to put a book down. Though I did, I do have other things to do. It has a handy unique feature other authors could use. You can read any chapter in any order and it still makes sense. If Tolkien had written Lord of the Rings that way I wouldn't have had to wait 40 years for the movie.

I have two main reasons for empathising with the book. First my own Dad also talks a lot of s***. I suspect most do. I'm just an uncle a dozen times over and I'm prone to it myself. Second, whilst I'm English, lived in England for 50+ years and nowhere else, there is one community in the USA I've visited more times than any other and that's Point Loma, San Diego, where Justin's Dad lives. Probably driven by the house and the little league field, possibly seen or heard him talk s*** in a store or restaurant. Down to a school trip in 1975 when I was hosted by a former US Naval officer and his wife, we hit it off and we became my "American parents" and their "English kid", alternating the...

Moon Donkey: I really enjoyed this book, but I found myself thinking that the author made most of the stuff up. Or... perhaps if it wasn't made-up, then he roughly paraphrased things he sort of remembered.

Most of the quotes taken from the author's father we heard by the author during his childhood. Ok... so how does he remember them all so well? Does he have a photographic memory or something? I can't remember word for word what somebody told me yesterday. I certainly don't remember exact phrases my father spoke to me when I was 10 years old.

At the end, the author thanks numerous people who helps recall events. Ok... I can see that. On the other hand, these events were still decades ago, so I'm not really buying it.

However, that is really a minor point. The book was good regardless. I'd have enjoyed it even if the author just made the whole thing up.

Reading this book made me think... there should be a book called "S*** Moondonky Says." Can you imagine how awesome that book would be? Here are some examples of my brilliant analysis for your pleasure. These are from actual reviews:

"God I love bacon."

"Heroin just didn't do it for me."

"Someone...

Kcorn: If the title of this review doesn't perk your attention, here's some more info:

Justin Halpern had a huge following on Twitter, the site where he first started quoting his father's words. He mainly wrote down what his Dad said - or had said. The actor Levar Burton even followed Justin Halpern and (for a time) Halpern followed only Levar Burton. The Twitter site took off like crazy and it is no surprise the book became a bestseller. It is reader friendly, hilarious, and catchy.

In time, word of mouth spread about Halpern's Twitter space. He'd become a Twitter sensation but he hadn't worked up the courage to tell his father - yet. After awhile, television producers came calling. This book goes far beyond the limited space allowed by Twitter and fills in many of the details about his father, growing up with him, family life, etc. I am skeptical about how they are going to keep the flavor and tone of what Halpern's father says, especially on a television show. Clearly, some of the profanity will be edited out. But back to the book...

The book still contains plenty of short saying from Justin's father. But there is so much more! Halpern includes hilarious anecdotes...
