Pacific Northwest customer: It is pretty propriatary, for perfect fit you have to use Johnsonville products, which we don't.
We've only used the brat plate thus far, the brats we use are slightly bigger than the Johnsonville brats so we have to puncture them - if you don't they pop the grill open when they expand.
You have to guess when they are done, it doesn't shut off or anything, maybe it does with their products.
That said, The brats cooked in this thing are delicious, brown on all sides, perfectly cooked. They taste so good that it is worth the hassle.
The unit is very easy to clean

Katrina BairKatrina Bair: Amazing and awesome grill. I have the grill plus, has 3 different size plates. I used the brats plate today for the first time using product, let me tell you, easy to change plates, and easy to operate. Just place your sausages in, secure lid, and plug in, push start, it does the rest. I cooked up my peppers and onions while waiting. It beeped and shut off. When I opened the lid I was amazed at how they looked. And they tasted great!! I would recommend this to everyone. I'm excited to use the other plates that came with for the breakfast links and patties.

Judy L.Judy L.: Technically, this sausage cooker was made to cook Johnsonville products, but can be used for other brands, sometimes with a little improvising.

My first use was to cook kielbasa sausage. Yes, kielbasa is a bit larger than Johnsonville brats, but it worked!! My old method of cooking kielbasa was a frying pan. As with most brat type sausages, kielbasa is curved. When cooking them in a frying pan, it's easy enough to brown the sides, but browning the inside and outside of the curve is nearly impossible. In addition, there is the task of watching the sausage as it cooks in an attempt to get it evenly browned (at least on the sides) without burning part of it. Each time you take of the cover of the frying pan, grease spits and spatters all over the top of the stove or cooktop. Using the Johnsonville sausage cooker, the kielbasa was a little larger than the grooves in the cooker, but I pressed them into it and managed to closed the lid. When the cooker beeped a little more than 10 minutes later, the kielbasa was evenly browned on all sides, including the inside and outside of the curves. It was perfectly cooked, and looked and tasted better than any kielbasa I have ever cooked on...

JohnTodd: Arrived a day early in perfect condition. Washed plates in hot soapy water, dried and snapped back into unit.
Placed five Italian sausages in unit as directed... This model does not have the "Needle" to punch the sausages, it has a sensor behind both plates to tell temperature and when finished cooking.

NOTE: used Walmart brand Italian sausages, NOT Johnsonville brand. Sausages were a little longer than the Johnsonville sausages but still fit perfectly in cooker.

Closed lid, pushed button (turned blue) and set my oven timer to see how long it took to cook sausages..
First batch took 12 minutes and blue button light turned off.
Sausages were cooked perfectly.. nice brown crunchy skin with no burning like on the BBQ grill.

Cooked two more batches immediately .. one after the other and grill worked perfect every time.. except the second and third batch took only 10 minutes to cook perfect like the first batch did.

Many years ago I learned to cook "Freezable" type foods in large batches and freeze individually for future use. Saves time and clean-up and makes ready to eat food for those days when I come home too tired to prepare dinner. Thus I will...
