Kealsey Thornton: Good book for beginner pasture poultry keeper. Has a lot of great information to consider before startup.

D. A. Mann: The book is mostly about chickens, but it can apply to any small livestock.

Santiago González Chávez: I've searched trough the Internet for ecological and economical way for raising livestock. This is an excellent primer for pastured poultry, you can even watch the evolution and relevance of the contents of this book scattered around in hundreds of homesteading and family farming videos, the most valuable lessons have permeated to the general movement of responsible farming.

This book gives excellent advise for beginners that can be easily improved by experience and further reading. This can be a stand alone reference, since it covers the whole Poultry business. However, complementary readings should be considered in each particular case.

In general, this is a great quick reference guide for embarking in the pastured poultry business.

The book was also well written and organized, the reading was fast and easy, which is appreciated.

The best part, is the ethics and principles embedded within the lessons, a prime example of humane practices anchored to animal wellness, consumer's health and satisfaction, and reasonable political viewpoints. This might not be the "solve all" reference, but it is a complete guide relatable to anyone interested in honest...

Stephen Rose: Very informative and well written

Kristal Monteith: Joel Salatin is a very smart man and excellent writer!

DrDWilliams: While not quite a how-to, Joel Salatin's Pastured Poultry provides ready-to-get-started small producers with good ideas and the right frame of mind to step out onto a journey to profitable and ethical small farming.

While I understand his struggle with "government" and "environmental activists," (lots of farmers are afflicted by this sentiment, and not without reason), I find it a bit cringy in 2020 when it might be better to cultivate environmentalists and double down on the unholy connection between libertarian anarchists and giant corporations who've been duping and victimizing small producers for years. He does seem to move I. That direction in the 2010 update at the end. In earlier sections, he's not Fox News irrational in his views and appreciates the land ethic centered approaches like those of Wendel Berry and Wes Jackson. At first, I found this a bit confusing, but upon re-election believe it is a bit of a reflection of the fact that the core of the book was developed in the context of the farm crisis of the 1980s when exorbitant interest rates forced many small producers into dead end loans made by federal lenders of last resort (FMHA and SBA), while the last part...

C. Jensen: Very good information, and actually includes several ways to make money with chickens, or plain just how to raise good quality meat and eggs for your own use. The main focus is broilers, but does cover laying hens as well. Excellent book, and includes updates since it was written a number of yrs ago.

Heather L. Williams: The book is absolutely packed with information, however, some of the things that I was looking for details on just aren't there... like how to build the chicken tractors he uses. There are no blueprints or drawings of how to put it together, just paragraph descriptions. That's hard for someone like me that doesn't build things on a regular basis to follow and I'm still going to have to try and find plans online in order to be able to copy Joel's system. Chicks arrive this spring and I can't wait to get started!

JudyLynn: This book is essential for anyone considering poultry production as a business. Following this book will save time, stress, money and more. Nothing is smooth or perfect, but when using the experience the Salatin's have under their belt will greatly reduce the number of disasters. They took most of the oops's out of the equation.

This book covers in detail everything from why you should go this route, to what the "big hats" do and why that isnt the route to go. He explains in so much detail that I feel after reading this book you can safely gauge whether this business would work for you.

This book contains everything you need to begin today. It discusses the equipment, the government certification requirements, or more accurately what sort of operation doesn't have to deal with those restrictions. He discusses the chicken tractors, how to make them, how to not make them. Discusses seasonal processing, the actual nitty gritty about the processing and more, oh so much more.

I learned a great deal from this book, I was so impressed that I have his Salad Bar Beef on order. I believe this book represents a turn key business. A person purchases the rights to open a...
