All: I purchase this book to use with the history quest curriculum. After the first lesson, I relised my children were very interested in the book, and that history quest was going to "water down" or bore them of the information. After finishing only 2 pages of the encyclopedia, the curiosity flowed and they began asking questions and we were having meaningful conversations about history and what, or how we can learn from it. After reading the pages and watching the videos from the encyclopedia, we then referred to our history quest book as the curriculum was laid out and they instantly lost interest. They were looking around the room and fiddling as I read the long chapter. One month later and we have yet to use history quest again. We decided to begin at the front of the encyclopedia, reading two pages at a time and watching all videos and completing the activities included ( there are videos, and sometimes there is a game, or addional pictures.) We do the activities and print the pictures to color or to label. Our history lessons are now guided with facts and completed with curiosity. I regret purchasing history quest, this book alone is enough. I purchased two addional encylopedias...

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: This book REALLY deserves a review.
It’s absolutely beautiful and AMAZING.
5 stars out of 5!
It’s a book that teaches you the history of the world from the dinosaurs to the year 2000AC.
Perfect for both adults and children.
It’s absolutely FULL of beautiful coloured illustrations and photos.
I decided to take pictures of some beautiful illustrations and pages from the book as the ad doesn’t show any, which it’s a shame.
Highly recommended.

B: The book is great, highly recommend it. Also recommend that whoever is in charge of packaging to take note of how heavy an item is before it is crammed in a too small envelope instead of an appropiate sized envelope or box. It's a heavy book and it came in an envelope that was open on one side. Really shouldn't happen. Had to wait for a while before it came and then to recieve it like this is rather dissapointing. Really don't understand why innapropiate packaging is a recurrent issue. The book itself however, is very informative for children and gets five stars.

Kaushik & Aditya: A perfect glimpse of the world history from the age of dinosaurs to the age of pollution. The eye catching pictures should easily raise the interest of kids in history!

CanadianMother: The Usborne Encyclopedia is a delightful resource for home schoolers, or for anyone, really - it covers the basics of every historical period, mentions all the key figures, and unlike many children's history books, it includes pages from many different cultures and continents, not only Western history. It's packed with photographs of artifacts and really nice detailed illustrations of life in times past.
My son really enjoys the first section of the book especially, which gives a detailed account of pre-history. To me, it seems a bit odd to have so much information about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life in a book that has a picture of a knight in armour on the cover - it seems to me like this topic should have been given a book of its own, and "World History" be kept about human history - but, whatever. I guess they were going for a very broad definition of history.
I'm glad I bought this book for our home school. And my son has been spending a great deal of time reading it just for fun. However! I do not recommend the soft cover version of this book. This is what we have, and I am very disappointed how flimsy the cover is, considering what a large and heavy book...

ALKALK: Good product. I was worried about it being paperback but it feels nice in my hands. It’s slightly smaller than the hard cover version but the inside graphics and words don’t feel much smaller.
I’m toying with removing the cover and spiral binding this.
