Albert N.: Some people think they don't need instructions but here are useful items of information from the booklet which I translated.

1. You need water in the water tray (between the burner and grill plate), 230 mL or 1 US measuring cup will suffice.
2. The gas cartridge is held in place with a magnet; if there is metal dust on the magnet, remove it with sticky tape.
3. Insert the gas cartridge and turn the knob counterclockwise all the way to ignite, let it come up to temp for 2-3 minutes, then lower temp accordingly.
4. When you're done, remove the gas cartridge and put the cap back on; don't store it inside the grill.
5. Don't let the grill plate sit empty for a long time while it's on, it will deteriorate the coating and in my experience the grill will be harder to clean.

Other important information from the manual: the gasket for the gas seal deteriorates; you should replace the grill 10 years after purchase. Don't cover all the holes on the grill plate and don't use the grill in an enclosed space like a tent (it is smokeless but obviously combustion requires oxygen). Johnson: Cooks very well, only complaint we have is that the instructions are not in English they are in Japanese and since there’s nothing to indicate to put water in the drip pan we now have to replace the pan since the marinade is burnt on the pan and will not come off and the finish scrapes off

kaho Doi: First of all, I love this grill. Nice size sand convenience. Not too much smoke, well of course smoke but still okay level.
I ordered it more than 4 weeks ago that seller in Japan, but it was faster to get a notification as a shipped. But it never came even the person marked as a shipped. In fact, it wasn’t shipped when I checked tracking number after couple weeks later. So I canceled once, and reordered from other person who selling in States. Then finally I got this. I’m quite happy with that now.
Secondly, this product targeted to Japanese, so, surely this product is good size for Japanese. If you are expecting 4 ppl from outside of Japan, maybe disappointed the size of product. In fact, my family disappointed. I’m originally from Japan, so it really perfect size for me. Anyway, hope it helps to consider to buy.

June Maghanay: It says it comes with a SPARE grill plate thats why I choose this compared to same iwatani brand but at a lower cost. But my order did not come with any spare grill plate. Felt cheated.
