Eric: Miessler and Tarr are the standard for Inorganic Chemistry. Whether you are a professor or a student you should be using Miessler and Tarr for Inorganic Chemistry. (I would recommend getting one of the newer editions). However, the 4th edition add color images, and re-arranges some things. Other than that, content wise, it's the same as the 3rd edition.

Jason: This is a college textbook, its point which is to inform, not entertain. Also, by the time you take an inorganic chemistry course you should have, at the least, four semesters of college-level chemistry under your belt, and much of the topics are expanded upon from general chemistry. If you find this textbook too hard to read, well, I hope you never go to graduate school.
The book lacks pictures and diagrams, and is rather dry, but it is meant for college juniors and seniors. I do not have any other inorganic textbooks to compare this edition to, but in my opinion, in comparison to other science and math textbooks I have used, including gen. chem. and orgo, this book is solid.
