I got this because I recently moved to a new apartment and my new place has a closed in back/front porch. I like to grill out during the summer. I am unable to put a grill out on my porch. I am on the 2nd fl and dont want to have to be running up and down the stairs to bring stuff out. Unlike my last residence it was a open porch. So I was able to grill out on my porch. So, far I made a steak, hamburgers and made some ribs. All of it came out good and taste just like I cooked it on the grill. Now, to get that charcoal grill taste. If you haven't heard of liquid smoke... get it. It makes a big difference. It makes the food taste like it was cooked on a charcoal grill. I used Wright's Liquid Smoke Hickory. You can mix it in your marinade or rub it on your food before you cook it. I love this stove top grill.
Now, for all the negative reviews on this grill. This is why I dont go by anyone reviews. I chance it for myself. Please read the instruction booklet that came with it. This is a smokeless stove top grill. You can use it on gas and electric stove. Read booklet for how to use it on both stoves. If you got the fire blazing up high it...

Ben: tl;dr This is good for the price, but you might need to break some of the instructions to make it work. Great option for apartments.
This is a great option for apartment living to mix up your cooking methods. We got it with little expectations, because in the world of grilling and kitchen items, this is a fairly cheap expense.
Our first experience was poor. We have a glass top stove, and we followed the minimal instructions that were provided. It took way too long to cook anything, and I could barely get the meat to a safe heat. There just wasnt enough indirect heat to cook anything. We know that if we had a different stove it would work better, but despite that handicap we expected more. We almost threw it away.
But I gave it a second shot and broke the two big rules that they say to "NEVER" do. We cooked on a larger heating element and we cranked the heat up to max heat. I'm not sure what the concerns are, since the instructions provided no information explaining why we could not use high heat or a large element. But once we did those things we achieved that sizzle you expect to hear and our meat and veggies cooked at the speed youd expect from this product....

George & LaurenGeorge & Lauren: I'm a big fan of this stovetop grill. My apartment building has the most sensitive fire alarm in the world. I have had it go off when I'm making quesadillas on my stove and I hadn't even burned anything. Since the entire building sets an alarm off in each apartment when one of the smoke detectors is triggered, I was a little nervous about trying this grill. I'm impressed that it did not produce a bit of smoke and the food came out great.
You do have to preheat it. The instructions say to preheat until you can hear a "sizzle." I threw droplets of water on it with my fingertips until I heard a sizzle. For the photos I uploaded, I had marinated chicken overnight in a delicious mustard rosemary marinade and it turned out great. I also added some dried rosemary to the water ring and my apartment smelled like rosemary while it heated up and created some fragrant steam. It took about 15 minutes for my gas stovetop to heat the stovetop grill enough to hear a sizzle. Then I butterflied one of the chicken breasts and left the other one thick to test which one would come out better. They take longer than you think they will since the heat isn't concentrated like you get with an...

aojore: This grill works more efficiently than the broiler on my stove. I had great grilled fish in just ten minutes.
It is truly smokeless and easy to clean afterwards. A definite plus!
