Brian: I use a small drill bit to remove wires from broken original, but pointed tip of a steak knife works also. Shove either one into old switch next to wire to remove or cut wire and strip insulation 1/4 inch. Pay Attn to position for that colored wire before moving wire to new switch. Before making swap, inspect the Capacitor Module where wires originate. I was replacing a switch that had the threaded end broken by a tenant. After replacing, I only had 2 speeds - High and Off! Then I noticed that the CM was melted. I ordered another CM and after installing it, all fan functions were restored. If the original wires do not have the ends tinned with solder, I recomend tinning them before installing in new switch, but twisting the stranded wires will also work if you don't have a soldering iron.

sutquig: For those searching through reviews looking to find a good fit, here you go. My fan is a Hunter with 4 wires, black, green, grey, and brown. The original switch was labeled ZING EAR D B108 on one side and ZING EAR ZE-208S6 on the other. I was able to test the old switch and it matched the specs of OFF, L-1, L-2-3, L-3. The wires attach to the side in the order of L-1-3-2. I bought the two pack because it was only $3 more and gave me a spare if I broke the first one during installation. I was able to replace the switch without removing the fan. The hardest part was testing the old switch and finding the replacement part.

JGCollins: This product worked as advertised and exactly replaced the switch in my Hunter ceiling fan. The switch needed replacement because the chain pulled out, and I could not reattach it. The only tools I needed were a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. The main complication was making sure that the wires all went back into the same holes on the new switch. I drew a sketch of the wire locations on the old switch before I pulled the wires out from the old. Note that, if you put the wires into the wrong holes, the fan may not work or it may have the speed settings out of order. Note that there are no instructions with this switch; so it's up to you to get it right. Here are some detailed steps that follow what I did:

1. Shut off fan and light at the wall switch or breaker panel (The fan runs on 120 Volts AC!).
2. Remove globes and light bulbs.
3. Remove 3 small screws around the base of the light fixture hub.
4. Remove the hub from the fan, and unplug it from the internal wiring harness.
5. Find the switch for the fan speed, and draw a picture of the switch showing the colored wire locations. (If your switch looks very different, you may not have...
